A lathe packed with features that woodturners love. The Shop Fox W1836 12" x 15" Benchtop Wood Lathe has a powerful 3/4 HP motor with electronic variable-speed spindle control and a digital RPM readout for precise speed adjustments to make this lathe a top choice.

24 indexes in increments of 15° allow evenly spaced cuts while the headstock stays in a locked position, which opens new possibilities not available on most benchtop lathes.

The heavy-duty cast-iron construction combined with rubber feet allow for increased stability and smooth turning operations.

Like all Shop Fox benchtop machines, the W1836 comes with a 2-year warranty which covers parts and assures the unit is free from factory defects. (Consumables are not covered by the warranty.)

The W1836 manual was written by our U.S. based Technical Documentation Department and is packed with useful information. The complete and easy-to-read manual makes it easier to assemble and maintain your lathe.

The Woodstock Customer Service and Technical Support Teams are U.S. based. Parts and accessories for the lathe may be available online and shipped from the Woodstock parts warehouse in Springfield, MO.

    Shop Fox Wood Lathe

New to turning. Great value and well built. Was worried about the noise from motor with brushes but it is totally quiet and very smooth. Plenty of speed and torque. Easy access to belt pulleys from top and bottom when a change is needed. The light is a nice feature but does not provide the best projection for inside bowl turns due to the short neck. Not a slam here but an add-on lamp with a longer neck will take care of that.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Better accuracy than cheaper lathes

Both points between centers line up exactly and it’s repeatable. They stay aligned with the tail stock adjusted in or out. The paint is not perfect, but it’ll work. Not having issues with the lamp staying up, which I’ve seen in other reviews. It’s not totally rigid, but stays put for me. The belt is a little squeaky, but it’s rubber on a coated pulley. The DRO is nice, but off by 100 rpm on the low side (475 to 500 is good enough for the size capacity of this machine anyway). It’s a motor turning wood between two center points, so not much else to say. When turning pens, every mistake shows up and you need an accurate lathe, so I’m not going to downgrade the rating for the few tiny complaints, as they don’t affect the results.
