Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for hedgehog bedding! The breeder suggested my son use the equine pine bedding pellets for his hedgehog. It works great! Absorbent, easy to clean out, long-lasting, economical. 40 lbs lasts 2-3 months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bedding for small animals too! I bought this a few weeks ago to try with one of my chinchillas. This bedding smmells fresh, looks nice, and is much safer apparently than newspaper or other types of bedding for small animals. I now use it for all my chinchillas and my rabbits. I’m definitely going to buy it again.

What size are these pellets?

Asked by: SuseyQ
The pellets vary in size while solid. The expectation is that you dampen them with water so they expand or "fluff" up.

how many bags will I need

Asked by: horseman don
The coverage area of the bedding product is all dependent on how deep the animals owner likes to have the bedded area. A bag for every 2.0 – 2.5 Square Feet is recommended. This gives the animal a good bedding and footing along with excellent absorbency factors.

Does it state anywhere on the package that it is kiln dried? I will use this for cat litter so it must be oil free.

Is this able to be used in a chicken coop

Asked by: Suzyq381
We have many customers who use the pellet for poultry. If there is any risk it could be of consumption. as the pellet swells. It is always good to test with the particular birds to be sure they are not tempted to consume the pellet.

Is this product kiln dried? I need to know before purchase

Asked by: hrhlyla
The product is done by either kiln drying process form a pine lumber mill or it is dried via. rotary dryer, Either way the product is dried from 30-50% initially down to 9-12% moisture coming out of the dryer prior to pelleting. The temperature in the rotary dryer has an inlet temperature of 800 degrees F. and a discharge temperature of 180 degrees F. The sawdust product is retained in the dryer for approximately 11-13 minutes. This drying process also kills any microorganisms and or bacteria that may be in the pine sawdust. The oils are diminished and reduced through the drying process and also through the natural leaching process that occurs when wood is left to sit out in the elements meaning the rain and snow.

Are there "oils" or "phenols" listed in the ingredients?? Thank you.

Asked by: dill pickle
This product is nontoxic. There are no added chemicals; it is compressed pine sawdust. The only issue would be if someone is allergic to pine.
