Item Information

This gravity-feed Hen Hydrator provides access to clean water on demand. The translucent bucket was designed to provide UV protection to prevent algae growth and allow for easy viewing of the water level. Lid fits tightly to prevent spills and protects contents while easy-to-remove fill plug allows for refilling without having to remove the entire lid. Each of the 4 nipples can accommodate up to 4 birds. Hanging height will vary by breed but should be high enough so that chickens must reach up slightly to drink. This waterer is recommended for adult birds only and is not recommend for use in freezing weather. for best results remove all other water sources, and tap each nipple so chickens can see water dripping. Acceptance of this watering method may take time but once a few birds begin to use it, others should follow.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good idea, poorly built. This is a good design if you’re hanging and leaving it. Others similarly built have recessed water pecks so they don’t break when sitting the bucket down, this does not. I like the design nonetheless as I was hanging and leaving. This was only a temporary hold over while installing a continuous watering system so no huge deal. The quality of the nipples is the real fallback. It wasn’t hanging for 48 hours when the first went and all the water came out making a mess. I wrapped a screw in Teflon tape and inserted to stop that hole up. Day or so later another broke out same fix. If I wasn’t around with it getting in the 90’s it could have potentially been bad but I check my birds fairly often or have someone check if I can’t. It did what it’s supposed to, and lasted almost as long as it...never mind. I wouldn’t recommend this product unless it were the only option we had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best waterer by far! I will be buying my 3rd hen hydrator bucket because it is the only chicken waterer I will buy going forward. I have a 1 gallon hanging in their coop and will be adding another 3 gallon to their run. I didn't like the previous handle design since it was regular bucket handle and made it hard to hang. I see that they've redesigned the handle to make it sit nicely in a hook. I like that it is clear to see the water level and the refill plug in the lid so you don't have to remove the whole lid to refill. Also, I see complaints about breaking the nipples when it is set down to refill, my solution has been to set it on an upside down milk crate while refilling and that has worked great. Love this product!! I wish Tractor Supply would figure out a better way to have lids available for all their buckets, three times I have wanted to buy a bucket but there was no matching lid in store. An employee flat out told me that people come in to steal just the lids.

Should the spouts drip constantly?

Asked by: Cbm7
Thank you for your question! Yes, it should drip every handful of seconds. This is so the chickens will see the water coming out and will learn how to drink from the waterer.
