Q: How does this waterer mount to wire pen? Will zip ties work?

1 Answer
  • A: Includes all mounting hardware. There are 2 metal brackets for attaching onto wood style coop and 2 plastic clips that gets screwed on the tube itself. As for the clips screwing onto the tube, location will depend if you will do a inside (back) mount or outside (front) mount. Rugged Ranch Answers

Q: What is the size of the hole that the watering cup is screwed into? I want to replace the cup with a nipple and it requires a 3/4in hole.

1 Answer
  • A: Hi PipelineGypsy, Thanks for the question. Here is what I received from our vendor: The hole is about 3/8 so she can likely drill 3/4 and it would work.

Q: Cup does not fill up. I mess with the float, remove the unit, take the lid off, mess with it some more and it may or may not fill. Very happy with the product as it is not working. Some have said to drill a hole in the top to relieve pressure. Thoughts?

Q: We bought the waterer and the cup doesn’t fill up but about 1/4 of the way. Is that what it’s supposed to do? I would think it should fill about 3/4 full. I just wanted to make sure it’s working right

Q: is it bpa free

Anonymous5 years ago
1 Answer
  • A: We have 3 types of waterers and we prefer the metal cylindrical type as it holds approx. 5 gallons of water. The waterer in question is ok just not big enough. Hope this helps.

Poor Design

This waterer has a great concept, but the overall design needs significant improvement. The tube is so long that you practically need extremely long arms to reach the bottom. The instructions require drilling brackets directly into the water reservoir. It’s not surprising that leaks can occur when screws are inserted into a container designed to hold water. Unfortunately, these design flaws outweighed the benefits, and I ended up returning the product.

We appreciate the feedback. The self tap screws do not let water leak out. If it did - something else is going on. We are always here to help troubleshoot at the Rugged Ranch office.

Terrible for the price

Hangs easy… setting it up wasn’t easy , long skinny arms needed . My chickens have been using it for a couple months and now they both leak. It’s very annoying to get it all set up and now I still have to replace the water daily !!!!!

No, I do not recommend this product.

The water should not leak and because you say both leak, something is not connected correctly. Please call the office to discuss and send photos showing where the leaking is to info@ruggedranch.net 760-734-3748
