Flock Party 5 qt. Molded Plastic Poultry Drinker

I always stock up on these when they have their spring sale. They are solid, not flimsy. Easy to clean and disinfect. Work great either in the coop, outside in the run, or in the quarantine cage. Very resilient plastic. I've forgotten and left these out in sub zero weather in which they've frozen solid without cracking.

Like another reviewer stated, I owned two of these for over 4 years and loved them. Sadly, since the original purchase, they must have changed the design as it takes a very strong person to open and close them. It's as if the molded red plastic part is not quite tall enough to fit the tabs on the white bell. The old version was a simple turn until you felt a slight click. This takes such a strong force to get it to click into place. Then there is the very sticky label residue that will not come off no matter how long you soak it after peeling off the label. When I got a batch of chicks to raise, I purchased a new one for them as it was still winter and I was changing out the two in the coop every few hours to keep the water from freezing. Right away, I noticed it was very difficult to twist on and off the base, especially that final click. It was so difficult that I had to ask my husband to help me open or close it which meant they weren't getting fresh water as often as I liked. A few weeks after owning it, I asked my husband to open the waterer so I could clean it. This time, it just shattered under the strain of trying to release the bottom. It wasn't in direct sunlight, was kept in moderate temperatures (around 75 degrees. It came down to the way it clicks on the base. When he went to check on buying a new waterer, they are all the same and very difficult to open and close. The manager of the feed store said the majority of ones that have been purchased are being returned for the same reason. I hope they fix this soon as I loved their product before this one. Until then, I'd suggest steering clear unless you are Popeye.
