Q: Hi. Can I remove the pan and place the barrel onto my ceramic birdbath?

1 Answer
  • A: It is not recommended to remove the pan and place the barrel onto your ceramic birdbath. The Harris Farms 5 gal. Double-Wall Poultry Drinker is designed as a single, integrated unit that relies on a specific vacuum seal system within its own base to maintain the water level in the pan without overflowing. The "pan" and the "barrel" are two parts of the system that are designed to fit securely together.

Q: If the galvanize is etched away by vinegar is the metal toxic to poultry?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. The galvanized coating protects the steel beneath from rust and corrosion. If the coating is removed by vinegar, the bare metal may be exposed, potentially leading to rust and leaching of zinc or iron into the water. While small amounts of zinc are essential, high exposure can be harmful to poultry. Therefore, it’s best to avoid stripping the coating and replace the drinker if the coating is damaged to ensure safe water for poultry.

Q: Do you pour water in at the top need more info

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. No, you don’t pour water in from the top. To fill it, turn the drinker upside down, remove the base, fill the tank with water, then reattach the base and flip it upright. The water dispenses into the tray using a gravity feed system.

LOVE

I cannot figure out all the bad reviews on this product? I love it! I twist the lid off and take it over to my tote where we collect rain water, fill it up and then carry it back to the run with the handle that's INSIDE the part you actually fill. I have mine setting on a cinder block that's pretty level. Then I push the lid down over it making sure the slat on the lid and the peg on the actually waterer line up then twist it shut. It will leak some water while do this but stops after that. I've had this for quite some time however when I read the instructions that came with it I'm 99.999% sure it said not to carry it or pick it up by its lid. It's certainly not meant for hanging as the lid creates a seal and when you pull on it its loses its suction and would leak. I highly reccomend this water it has saved me from having to fill it daily and that's for 22 chickens!

Would not buy again

We have had this waterer since April, less than 12 months, and it has rusted inside and made the water a red, rusty color. We bought this thinking it would be a long term solution and we want to now buy a different kind and look into returning this one.

Poor quality

Rusted in less than a year. I purchased another metal waterer prior to this one (using both simultaneously) and the other has no rusted.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Only had it three years inside of a chicken coop, so wasn’t even exposed to all the elements and it rusted through and completely useless. Super disappointed. For $50 I expected better quality. I know as much as you are tempted to get it, DONT !!! I know its pretty. It is literally a waste of your money.

No, I do not recommend this product.
