Q&As

1 - 10 of 15 Questions

Q: Can this be used on a bucket heater?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Neighbor- Yes, you can use a compatible heated base or bucket heater with a plastic poultry waterer like the Flock Party 3.5 gal., as they are generally safe for plastic and designed to prevent freezing by keeping water just above freezing, but ensure the heater's diameter matches or slightly exceeds the waterer's base, and always use a GFCI outlet for safety, especially in wet coop conditions.

Best that Tractor Supply sells

I've tried the water founts that Tractor Supply sells, and I believe this to be the best. Fills up easy and so long as you have the least bit of manual dexterity, putting the lid on is a cinch. Will it eventually break? Well that depends on if it's being exposed to extreme elements and being tossed around. It's thick plastic, but with anything that's exposed to years of sun or extreme cold, it can eventually break. I've also read that it can grow algae in it. Of course it can, there is water being poured into it and chickens drinking from it! If you're a reasonable person, you should probably wash it out once in a while! We like to add a few tablespoons of cider vinegar to every new fill. It makes the birds happy and keeps the algae away. No algae in mine yet in this summer in the hot Carolina sun. If you're looking for durability and ease of use, this is the water fount for you. The 1 gallon is also good for smaller applications.

Poor design and material quality

No way! Second time I've purchased this brand product and the same thing has occurred... Plastic gets brittle and legs will break off. Plastic at the handle and legs end is VERY THIN! It's thick at the base but NOT where it needs to be stronger. No way I'd recommend this to anyone.

Bad quality.

Too flimsy for that amount of water. Too hard to flop back up after refilling and the base could crack with frequent usage. Worse of all, it leaks nonstop. I bought two of these in hopes to help with the constant refilling water, but each time, theses would flood my pens with all the water in them. Do not buy!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Poor Quality

Don't buy- Leaked water from the minute I filled it. You can see a slight gap at the base where you screw the waterer to base. I would also suggest that there should be a Screw Cap ontop of the container so you can fill it with a hose and not have to unscrew it from bottom.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I just bought this about 2 months ago and it will not hold water. It leaks badly. I have triple checked to be sure it's closed properly and checked several times for cracks. Every time I fill it it looks like it is leaking from the bottom but I cannot figure out how or where. I fill it, go back out in about a hour and it's empty and there's a wet trail on the ground where all the water has run out. And yes it is sitting level. As soon as I can I am returning this thing. I have been putting a 2 gal bucket out with water for my chickens until I can get something that works.

No, I do not recommend this product.
