Item Information

The Stickmate LX 235 AC/160 DC power sources lets you choose between AC or DC weld output to expand your welding options to either AC or DC stick electrodes. Although DC current offers welders a smoother arc with less spatter and better arc starts, the AC setting offers welders the ability to work on heavier steel with a top end of 235A.

  • 15 ft. electrode cable with heavy-duty holder, 10 ft. work cable with clamp and power cord with plug
  • Welds 1/8 in. up to 1/2 in. mild steel in a single pass
  • Operates off 230V input power
  • AC - 30 to 235 output Amperage, DC - 30 to 160 output Amperage
  • Duty cycle - AC 20% at 225 Amps, DC 20% at 150 Amps
  • Accu-Set Amperage indicator for accurately controlling amperage or heat output
  • Infinite current control allows output adjustments by as little as 1 A increments
  • Output selector switch - quickly select low or high range without adjusting the output leads
  • Manufacturers limited warranty

Hobart Stickmate LX 235AC/160DC is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid machine, welds like a dream. I've been welding with inverter machines exclusively for the past several years. I learned on an engine driven buzbox but that was 18 years ago. My 300 amp stick welder was DC only and an inverter. Even though the inverter machine has digital settings, I was having serious difficulty welding .065 thick stainless tubing without blowing holes in it. I needed an AC capable machine so I researched several different models. I took a chance on the Hobart because of price, features and reliability. It had a great reputation as well. I could not be happier with this machine. Even though its not digital, I was able to fine tune the amps, eliminate the blow through and produce a superior bead on the stainless project. Ive also found the DC arc characteristics to be far more fluid and the puddle more manageable with this machine while welding mild steel. Its fairly quite and doesn't take up much space but it is heavy (104 lbs). Only issues: Work clamp is kind of cheapo and has a short lead. Would prefer dinse style connections.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent AC/DC welder! Bought the Stickmate LX from TSC. Couldn't ask for a better, cleaner all purpose welder. Hobart should consider longer leads (it comes with 15' lead w/10' ground). Whatever it costs to supply this model with longer leads, simply add it to the price. I wouldn't mind a few dollars more for adequate lead length.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good welder I bought this welder to build a antenna tower. It works great! But the welder leads need to be much longer. As a word of advice, Hobart is not making this model anymore due to The EPA's power conservation requirements. The new units are inverter welders. Real junk! Buy this unit before it goes out of stock and is gone forever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm back to the stick! I tried the wire feed style for 3 yrs with total frustration every time. Yesterday I gave up after several hours on a 20minute project and bought this Hobart that was a 1/3 of the price of the Miller Mattic 210 I had invested in. I'm back in love with welding and my frustrations are over!

You say it has a 230v power requirement but what amp circuit to run this machine? Is it 50amp and what is the plug configuration?

Asked by: Ralph B
Yes, 50 amp circuit and with a NEMA 6-50 style plug. Receptacle needs to be purchased separately.

Would a Generac GP7500 (7500 sustained watts, 9250 ish surge watts) run this welder without limitations? If it won't, what amp settings would it run the welder at without issues?

Asked by: Smith82
With that size generator you have to stay with 1/8" rods and smaller so as not to overload the generator.

can a 4000 watt generator handle up to 140 amp output

Asked by: scott518
No it will not. You would need at least a 7000 watt running to achieve close to that type of output.

Can this machine be setup for all phases of tig welding including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum?

Asked by: Monk409
This unit is primarily a stick welder. It will not do TIG aluminum but with the addition on a TIG torch with a valve on the handle you can do SCRATCH start TIG on steel and stainless with limited success. There is no kit from Hobart to do this modification.

Will this machine run 6010? I've heard some people say they use this machine to TIG and others say it's not possible. Which is it?

Asked by: Danger D
If you are using a DC outlet you can run 6010.
