Q: Is the 8000BTU too oversized for a 100sqft bedroom? It has French doors opening to the kitchen, and it would be nice to get some cooling power out there too, but I'm in a humid place and I really don't want mold. (My old AC has had lots of mold problems!)

  • A: Hi Jafe, thanks for reaching out — we understand you’re trying to figure out whether the 8,000 BTU LW8022IVSM is too much for your 100 sq. ft. bedroom, especially with humidity and mold being a big concern. This model is designed to cool up to 350 sq. ft., but because it uses Dual Inverter technology, it can run at lower, steady speeds instead of short‑cycling. That steady operation helps maintain consistent dehumidification, which is exactly what you want to avoid mold. One helpful step is: • Use Energy Saver or Sleep Mode when the bedroom door is closed — this keeps moisture under control before you open the French doors to share cooling with the kitchen You can review the performance details here: https://www.lg.com/us/air-conditioners/lg-lw8022ivsm-window-air-conditioner If you need further assistance, feel free to email lgdigitalcare@lg.sprinklrsupport.com. ‑LG Digital Care Team ^Rich

Q: Is the power cord on the left or right side of the unit?

  • A: Hello there, we appreciate your question about the LW8022IVSM Window Air Conditioner, and we understand you want to know whether the power cord is on the left or right side of the unit. When facing the front of the air conditioner, the power cord is located on the right side, positioned near the lower area of the unit. As a quick check, you can look along the right edge of the chassis to confirm where the cord exits. You can review the full product manual here: https://www.lg.com/us/support/product/lg-LW8022IVSM.AT1AYOW?tab=1 If you need further assistance, feel free to email lgdigitalcare@lg.sprinklrsupport.com. ‑LG Digital Care Team ^Rich

Q: confused on 8022 vs 8024 compressors...a dual inverter compressor has two compression chambers...the 8022 says its a "variable speed rotary"...does the 8022 has only have a single compression chamber?...if so, why is it sold as dual inverter?

  • A: Hope this helps with the confusion, but a dual inverter compressor for an air conditioner can have a variable speed rotary. Dual inverter air conditioners typically feature two rotary compressors that operate simultaneously, allowing for variable speed control. This design enables the system to adjust its cooling output based on the load, resulting in more precise temperature control and energy efficiency. Both dual inverter and regular inverter air conditioners have inverter compressors which, in their turn, are rotary compressors...^Ivan.

Q: What is the difference in compressors between the 8022 and 8024 models...the 8022 says it's a variable speed rotary and the 8024 says it's dual inverter...please advise...

  • A: Both types of compressors are used in various applications. The Variable Speed Rotary Compressor dynamically adjusts its speed based on cooling needs, optimizing energy efficiency across a wide operational range. In contrast, the Dual Inverter Compressor can adjust its speed to match the required output. Inverter compressors are known for their energy-saving capabilities, as they can adjust the speed of the compressor motor based on the cooling demand, resulting in lower energy consumption. The Variable Speed Rotary Compressor also offers high energy efficiency. Inverter compressors are generally quieter than rotary compressors, as they operate at lower speeds and produce less vibration. The Variable Speed Rotary Compressor is noted for its compact size and versatility...^Ivan.

Q: The 8000 btu LW8022IVSM model is listed as 62 lb weight (I have one of these and installed it by myself with no problem), and the now more available 8500 btu LW8024IVSM is listed as 85 lb weight. Is this latter a typo? 23 lb more for 500 extra btu?

  • A: Hey there! You've made a sharp observation about the weights for the LG LW8022IVSM (8,000 BTU) at around 62 lbs and the LW8024IVSM (8,500 BTU) at 85 lbs. The listed weights for both models are accurate, not a typo. While 23 lbs for only 500 extra BTU seems like a lot, these models can have different internal components, compressor designs, or casing structures that account for the weight difference to manage the increased capacity and efficiency. Q: Is the max window width 36” or 41”? I have a 40” wide window and I see on the site it is 36”. But when you view the installation manual, it says 41”.  It’s the same on sites who sell these and it’s maddening.

Q: Hi! We have an AC cage in our window (14.5inch depth). I know the depth of the unit is 24.5. How much is the depth from the window frame to the end of the unit once installed ? (the part that sticks outside)

  • A: How much of the LG 8,000 BTU DUAL Inverter Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Window Air Conditioner, Model # LW8022IVSM protrudes outside from your window will depend on the depth of your window sill and where your bottom window sash clamps down on behind the window air conditioner's upper panel guide that the left and right curtain panels slide into. The owner's manual for the air conditioner states that the outside of the cabinet must extend outward at least 12" and there should be no obstacles, such as a fence or wall within 20" from the back of the cabinet because it will prevent heat radiation from the condenser which can affect system efficiency. The condenser relies on clean, unobstructed coils to release heat effectively...^Ivan.

Q: Hello, What is the BTU range of output at the low and high end that these units will output? I'm interested in the 14,000 BTU unit but roomwise I'm about at it's sq ft limits. Also, is the BTU output dependent on the speed the fan is set at?

  • A: Great choice! Our LG 8,000 BTU DUAL Inverter Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Window Air Conditioner delivers powerful cooling with 8,000 BTUs, and if you need more coverage, the 14,000 BTU unit offers even greater output for larger spaces. The fan speed does impact cooling, with higher speeds providing more airflow and lower speeds slightly reducing the output. No matter the setting, LG's DUAL Inverter technology ensures efficiency and comfort! 😊 ^Anthony

Q: Does this model come with frame to put in front of the unit? And why is it cheaper at Wallmart? Is that the same unit?

Originally posted on lg.com

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, A. Preak. The LG 8,000 BTU DUAL Inverter Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Window Air Conditioner, Model # LW8022IVSM does not come with a frame to put in front of the unit. As with car dealerships and some electronic products, the air conditioner has an MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price), but retailers can sell the products at whatever price they like. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP), also known simply as the list price, is the price at which a manufacturer recommends that a particular product be sold in retail outlets. The rationale behind designing a suggested retail price for products is to establish uniformity in the prices of such products from store to store, while simultaneously ensuring that all parties involved in the transaction – the manufacturer, the wholesaler, and the retailer are profitable on completion of the retail sale. Although such standardized prices ensure that consumers do not have to overpay for the goods purchased, several retailers actually sell products for lower prices than the MSRP. This is typically done to move inventory from the shelves during periods of slow sales or as part of competitive pricing strategies aimed at outdoing the prices offered by competing retailers. Since retailers usually purchase products from manufacturers at wholesale prices that are well below the MSRP, it is possible to offer huge discounts on the listed prices and still turn a profit. On the other hand, retailers may choose to sell certain products for prices higher than the MSRP. This is usually done when the products are in high demand and /or in low supply and the retailers are convinced that they will sell quickly irrespective of the higher prices. Although the MSRP of any product usually takes into account the manufacturing as well as selling costs associated with it, not all retailers are able to turn similar profits by selling the product at similar prices. This is because large retailers typically buy in bulk directly from the manufacturer at much lower wholesale prices. On the other hand, smaller retail stores generally source their merchandise from distributors in relatively lower quantities and higher wholesale prices. If the air conditioner you see at Walmart has the same model number, or regardless of where it is sold, it will be the exact same unit...^Ivan.

Q: Is LG model LW8022IVSM have a slide-out chassi? The model LW8024IVSM appears to be a slide-out chassi. Please correct me on this. I live in a high rise and prefer a slide-out chassi for a new AC upgrade since the current Frigidaire model is a slide-out

Very quiet love it

Very quiet, I liked it so much I could not wait to buy another for my living room. Also is very good on energy. The only complaint is that the dark control panel makes it hard to see the settings, so mainly I use the remote or the app.

Cools room fast!

This LG window AC cools the room fast, which is a huge plus during those super hot days. The included remote makes it really easy to control, and it comes with some nice features that are simple to use. One thing to keep in mind is that it is pretty big, so installation might take a bit of effort, especially if you’re doing it solo. But once it’s in place, it works great and keeps the space nice and cool. Overall, a solid, reliable AC that does exactly what you need it to.

Nice AC unit

The box itself was heavy but this is a great air conditioner especially since you can control how cool you want it to be and it has wonderful features. Installation was fairly easy and I like the fact it has a power saver mode too.
