Water Filters
Something's off when your water starts smelling like a swimming pool or runs cloudy from the tap. Water filtration solutions, such as our water filters, pull out the particles, chemicals and minerals that affect what comes through your pipes. Tractor Supply offers filter systems and replacement cartridges for whole-house setups, refrigerators, RVs and more.
Contaminants, Coverage and How Filtration Works
Your water picks up a lot between the source and your faucet – sediment, rust and sand are common in well water and older pipe systems. Municipal water gets chlorine or other disinfecting chemicals added during treatment, which does its job but can leave an aftertaste. Iron, lead, fluoride and hydrogen sulfide show up in some water sources, too, each one affecting taste, odor or safety in its own way.
Water filters work by passing water through one or more materials that trap or neutralize what shouldn't be there. Sediment filters catch particles as small as one-millionth of a meter, blocking sand, silt and fine debris before they reach appliances. Carbon filters pull out chlorine and organic compounds that cause off-tastes and odors. Reverse osmosis (RO) membranes go further, removing minerals and other dissolved materials that other filter types tend to miss.
Whole-House and Point-of-Use Systems
A whole-house water filter system ties into your main supply line, so filtered water runs to every tap, appliance and showerhead in the building. Cartridges come in sediment, carbon block and iron and manganese types. Matching the cartridge to the contaminant in your water is what makes the system effective. Point-of-use systems take a more targeted approach, filtering a single location such as an under-sink setup that feeds one faucet. Cartridges for both system types carry ratings in gallons or months, so replacement schedules are a breeze to track.
Refrigerator Filter Replacements
The filter inside your refrigerator handles water before it ever gets to the ice maker or door dispenser. Most install directly in the fridge housing and connect to a dedicated supply line, and they tend to be brand-specific, so check the compatibility before making a purchase. Cartridges are typically rated to run for two to six months, but if the water flow slows noticeably, that's usually a sign to swap it out earlier than later.
Portable and Point-of-Entry Filtration
Campsite water hookups aren't always reliable, which is why inline water filters are a standard piece for RV travel. They thread directly onto a hose or water line, and they knock out sediment and chlorine before water gets into your vehicle's fixtures or holding tank. Shower filters work on a similar principle, running water through multiple filtration stages to cut chlorine and other chemicals, which can irritate skin and hair over time. Water pumps paired with inline filters keep flow consistent in gravity-fed or low-pressure systems where water pressure alone isn't enough to move water through reliably.
Pick Up Water Filters from Tractor Supply
A water filter system works best when the rest of your water delivery setup is sound. Pressure regulators, shutoff valves and compatible fittings all help a filter do its job at full capacity. Shop our plumbing add-ons at your local Tractor Supply store or browse our website.
