Item Information

The Champion Power Equipment 100379 22 in. Front Tine Tiller combines power and performance perfectly, taking you from barren ground to a great garden in no time. Once you prepare your garden with our efficient tiller, you'll wonder how you ever prepped your soil without it. The 212cc engine powers the four 13.8 in. heavy-duty hardened steel tines as they transform tough ground into perfectly prepared garden soil. The variable 16 to 22 in. tilling width and up to 8 in. tilling depth make this capable tiller the perfect match for a gardener who wants to go from tilling to planting as quickly as possible. Champion's dual rotation makes it easy to till any type of soil. In addition, the extra width means fewer passes are needed to prepare your soil so you can quickly move on to other tasks.

  • Compact and efficient design includes convenient handle controls and an easy-adjust depth gauge which runs behind the tiller
  • 8 in. storable transport wheels allow you to transport your tiller across driveways and sidewalks with ease
  • Perfect for turning soil, mixing in compost, loosening soil to help water reach plant roots or weeding between rows
  • Designed with a low oil shut-off sensor, this unit holds 0.9 gal. of gasoline and has a 0.6-quart oil capacity (recommended 10W-30)
  • EPA certified and CARB compliant
  • 2-year limited warranty and FREE lifetime technical support

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Tiller A good tiller at a good price. The reverse feature is handy and the Champion customer service is great, unlike other companies. Do yourself a favor an call customer service at a company before you buy their product. You won't regret this purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A tiller with nice features The gearbox went out on my old tiller so I was in the market for a new one. I was sold on this tiller because of its design. I like the fact that the gearbox can be opened and serviced if necessary. On my old model, it was welded closed. Also, I like the reverse feature and a strong motor. I called customer support today with a few questions and they were very courteous and helpful. I would not hesitate to buy this brand and tiller again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thriller Tiller Tiller meets all expectations. For context: I am a tiller/power garden equipment neophyte, average build middle aged female. Some of what follows might be obvious, but I am including it to be helpful to other newcomers and to indicate this is a great tiller and buying process even for people like me. 1. Order and delivery went smoothly. TSC a great store/company based on this experience. Excellent customer service. I will look forward to doing more business with them. 1a. I unloaded the tiller at home on my own. Heavy, and due to the bulk of the box, unwieldy! Much better with two people! 2. Product arrived with minor/cosmetic damage to one handle that seemed to have broken through the cardboard box during transit. 3. Assembly was not difficult, but it was detailed. Some changes in product packaging resulted in addendums/revisions to the assembly sequence, so it is worth the time to read the booklet and the included loose pages before starting the assembly process. (For example, I noticed the wheels were attached already in a picture, but my tiller wheels were not yet. This prompted my search for wheel attachment instructions before attaching the piece I had initially intended to...) 4. Started easily per start sequence instructions. (My hand knocked the throttle lever to half open when pulling the cord. Once I realized this and got throttle back to full open, easy start.) Let tiller sit and run until sounds smooth before getting into action, or might stall out. Btw, it needed most of the oil included, but not all, so pour slowly. 5. In light of storage recommendations (fuel empty), I began process with partially filled tank. Still working out how much fuel to use. Instructions recommend letting fuel run out of line to turn engine off. I did not do this the first time (turned off wrong knob), and the next start was a little more difficult than the first. When I stopped per instructions, the next start was easier. 6. I was tilling a deeply rooted and longstanding grassed section of a NC (ie packed dirt/clay soil) yard. I was working out controlling the tiller, so my first pass was with light pressure. It is a manageable machine for a person of moderate strength/athleticism. I’m not a super hero! Two more passes and then raked away the diggings. I then made two more passes, allowing tiller blades to sit in place to dig deeper, and in places rocking R-L. The machine bounced when grappling with deeply rooted grass mounds. Even after these extra passes, I have to hit the area again although some parts are nicely turned and workable. I suspect that someone taller (than 5’7”) and stronger would have more immediate results, and maybe the weight distribution of a rear-tine tiller would have helped the process along. I am very satisfied with results however. I suspect that as my comfort with this piece of “heavy machinery” improves, so will my results. Looking forward to future tilling sessions.

Does it have reverse?

It can rotate in reverse for short periods of non-tilling activity (e.g. moving the tiller out of a difficult location).

Does this tiller in fact have a reverse function?

Asked by: Jack1947
This is a Dual Rotation Tiller. The tines can be operated in both forward and reverse.

Will this break new ground? My yard can be hard packed in some areas and has small roots throughout.

Asked by: Mc1781
Yes, just be sure to remove any objects like rocks and make your first pass shallow before tilling deeper into the soil.

What is the gross torque on this tiller? I have a Briggs and stratton motor on my old tiller. Specs 850 Series, 190cc, power rating 8.5

Asked by: Spyhupass
The engine torque of this tiller is about 8.9 ft-lbs @ 3600 RPM. Tine rotational speed of the front tine tiller about 157 RPM with engine speed setting at 3800 RPM.

I’m not an athletic person and want to know if I can handle this machine.

Asked by: LisaG65
Using a garden tiller does require some upper body strength to maneuver through the dirt and over uneven earth for example. If tilling on a slope, it could require additional strength.
