The Troy-Bilt Pony 16 in. 250cc Gas Garden Tiller is designed to make soil preparation easy, year after year, and it comes with a limited lifetime warranty on the transmission. It features a cast-iron gear casing and precision bronze gears, which help turn soil quickly in medium to large gardens. The Troy-Bilt tiller has 12-in. steel tines that slice, chop and turn soil up to 7 in. deep. The 16 in. tilling width makes the Pony ideal for medium-to-large-size gardens, allowing you to move through soil quickly. A 250cc Briggs & Stratton engine powers through soil and is protected by a front bumper. Power reverse and 13 in. agricultural tires are designed for flexible handling around rocks and other obstacles.

  • Rear-tine tiller uses a cast-iron encased transmission with a bronze gear drive that provides so much extra-strength and durability
  • Machine is engineered to be well-balanced and easy to control with 1 hand
  • Forward-rotating tines for premium garden soil preparation
  • Power reverse helps you back out of tight corners and dense soil
  • 16 in. maximum tilling width helps ensure tilling efficiency
  • 12 tines are crafted with metal for strength
  • Garden tiller includes a factory-installed protective bumper
  • 13 in. agricultural tires enhance traction and maneuverability
  • Limited-lifetime warranty on the transmission (including all gears, shafts and housings) against defects in material and workmanship for the life of the tiller (to the original purchaser only)
  • 2-year limited warranty

Use only in soft dirt. Not a safe design.

Use this tiller only in soft dirt. If it hits hard dirt, it will lurch forward and it is easy to lose control of it. It is built way too light to be able to breakup harder dirt. Also, the tines on this spin way too fast. I have owned a Econo Horse Troy built tiller for over 30 years and it has been a fantastic, well-built machine. The motor and gear box did finally give out. If I could return the new one and get my money back, I would and do anything I could to repair the old one. Newer is not better.

Piece of junk!

This is the worst tiller I have ever seen. The design is terrible. To adjust the speed, you have to stop and go around to the front of the tiller to adjust it. Adjusting the tines is horrible. I can barely move the lever to adjust, it's so hard. I've had a Troy Bilt Horse for over 60 years. It's been wonderful and I've only needed to replace a few parts over this time period. Unfortunately it's age has finally caught up with it. This new pony is cheaply made and is very hard to handle. It constantly gets away from me. Also, having to lift the handle to start the wheels and tines is very awkward.

No, I do not recommend this product.

First Impressions

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Manufacturing quality was poor. A bolt securing the belt cover was stripped, and one wheel was mounted with the tire fill valve on the inside, (tire tread was correct), but must remove tire to access valve. Engine is great, starts first pull.

We are the joneses

We got this direct shipped to us after we planted our garden. So it’s still just sitting by the lawn shed. The crate it comes in looks nice and draws plenty of eyre from the neighbors. I’m sure it does what it should besides.
