Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall, a good coop for the price. This is my first chicken coop, ever, so I don’t consider myself to be an expert by any means. I will just share what I have noticed about The Defender. Overall, it seems like a well built coop, considering it is reasonably priced. I didn’t have time to build one, so after looking at quite a few coops, I bought this one. It offers a lot of space in the run, and enough in the coop. I like that the coop is constructed using a metal frame and no wood touches the ground. I agreed with some of the other reviewers in that the wood stain seemed inadequate to provide protection against the elements, so I applied a coat of cedar house stain, inside and out. It has a sliding ventilation cover, which makes it easy for when the seasons change. The side doors have a gap around them, so I plan to install some weatherstripping before winter. The only other thing I would change is the gaps between the individual fence panels are wide enough to allow small predators through, but that’s nothing that some hardware cloth can’t take care of. So I would buy it again, and I would recommend it to others.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice run, coop, not so much. Assembly was not too difficult, took 3 of us a few hours. The run is an excellent size and very strong. Due to predators in our area, we wrapped the bottom half in chicken wire just to be safe. The coop leaves a lot to be desired. Coop issues: 1. WAY too small. If you are putting 15 chickens in this you should be charged with animal cruelty. We have 9 in there and it is way too small. We will be building a bigger coop to attach to the run. 2. There are air gaps at each of the doors, so if you live in a colder climate, you will have to fill the gaps to keep the chickens from getting frostbite. There are way too many gaps to list, it is definitely not air tight. 3. The ventilation vent at the top is right where the chickens roost, which again is a major problem for the winter months. There is also only one vent so there is no true airflow where you need it. While it looks nice and everyone says my chickens have a McMansion, I would not buy it again. The only nice thing about it is the run, which you can buy alone (10x10 dog kennel), and save yourself the headache of assembling a coop that isn’t worth your time or money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For the price, well worth it. So let me you just tell you that I do extensive homework on everything I buy. I’ve read every review and watched all the YouTube videos. I don’t understand how people had trouble putting this together. My son who just turned 13 basically put this together himself with my help in about 3 hours and that’s including the roof cover and raised flooring that we’ve added. The run itself is very sturdy. Definitely need 2 people because it’s a little awkward putting roof on and heavy. I used a socket set attached to a drill so that made it faster and easier. As far as the coop...the wood is definitely not the best quality and was a little unsure how long it would last over years of use so I painted each and every piece, inside and out with a good quality outdoor paint. That took longer then putting coop together. Is the coop totally weatherproof? Definitely not but a little caulk and weatherstripping does the trick. Probably wouldn’t care if I lived in a warmer climate. I have 7 hens in this and they have plenty of room for them to roost and roam in the run. Roof is sturdy enough to hang feeders and waterers on as well. I’ve added the retriever branded dog kennel roof cover to top of mine to keep dry. Not a perfect fit but pretty close. I would recommend this to anyone that doesn’t want to “design and build” a coop and run. Well worth the price!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Available to My Area I chose this particular coup, but was forced to purchase the small 8X8 by the same company, which isn't big enough. I'm disappointed that this product doesn't ship to my zip code, nor is it available to be delivered to my nearest Tractor Supply in Wauconda. The product itself seems fantastic for its intended use. What I really wanted was the 8x8 design in a 10x10, which would have been perfect. My main focus was the pitched roof (for rain run-off once you cover the top) and security (a dog run wasn't going to cut it).
