Dead chickens in the winter

Overall this product works. It wasnt roo hard to figure out how to put together either. Not a one person job. I live in Northern Maine, it gets -30 regularly with windchill and even colder than that. I went outside and my chickens kept dying, they couldnt stay alive in this coop in the winter due to the major gaps in between panels and the doors. So i moved them all back into my old chicken coop "a shed" and i have kept in there since with 0 problems. I hate that i spent so much money on this because i love this coop in the summer butni HATE it in the winter. I will be building my own for a fraction of the price from here on out.

Run is great, the coop frame is only spot welded so there are lots of cracks gaps that are going to have to be sealed and there are significant gaps around the doors that will need to be insulated for colder weather.

Versatile design

The nesting boxes and sleeping quarters are easy to reach without bending. With proper planning your chickens are easy to care for, and safe. We buried cement blocks around the perimeter to prevent predators from digging in. We put 8” of sand in the outside pen. Super easy to clean with a telescoping liter scooper. We added an automatic door that hubby hooked up to the grandpa’s feeder lid so it closes with the door and opens up in the morning. Ceramic heat lamps on an outlet that turns on when the temperature drops below 40 degrees, Turns off at 45 Degrees. Plenty of natural ventilation for the girls. It’s a versatile layout that can accommodate many different needs. We have had ours under a huge cedar tree with tarping covering the entire area plus extra overhang to keep the humans dry while maintaining the girls! Funny they chose to lay in only one box, and naturally went inside on their own as soon as they were ready to live outside. We have six large girls and that is all that can comfortably fit with room to not need to quibble. I don’t recommend more birds than six.

I love it but I suggest reinforcing it with hardware cloth because there is a gap between each panel. After added it I never got raccoons in the coop again
