This hybrid European pear cultivar produces large, sweet, and juicy pears with creamy white flesh and yellow fruit with a red hue on the thick skin. It is perfect for desserts, canning, or fresh eating and has excellent flavor. Check out this recipe for delicious pear jam! The Oriental pear tree fruit ripens in August and is fire blight resistant at any time of year. Any of our other pear varieties would be excellent to cross-pollinate with the Orient pear. Orient pear tree cross-pollination is required for pollination. Adding 1 or more pear varieties will increase fruit production. Growing pears is easy, fun, and rewarding! Allow the fruit to ripen on the tree for an even sweeter flavor!

  • The Orient Pear Tree can thrive in a variety of soil types (prefers well-drained soil) and requires around 400 chill hours. This pear cultivar prefers full sun and typically begins to bear fruit after four years. Orient Peartree is a self-fertile fruit tree, but you will get larger crops when another pollenizer is present.
  • The planting season for this type of tree and shrub is in early spring so it has the whole growing season to establish a strong root system.
  • The chilling requirement of this pear variety demands being grown in USDA hardiness zones 5-9. Can be grown in most of the United States except for extremely hot places like south Florida. This pear tree can grow up to 20-30 feet tall with a 20-30 foot branch span at full maturity.
  • We ship these trees rooted in soil in a container. These are not bare root trees. This is to ensure the highest quality of planting trees we can provide. They are resistant to pests and diseases.
  • A slow-release fertilizer at the top of the root ball will help with root development. Mulch heavily near the base of the tree before winter comes to help retain moisture. Be sure to mulch below the graft union for better air circulation on the tree. Young trees require lots of water until the roots are established.
