Q&As

1 - 6 of 6 Questions

Q: Is this tree self pollinating?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, Bill. Prairifire Crabapple trees are self-pollinating and will produce fruit without another tree nearby. However, you can improve fruit production with cross-pollination with other crabapple varieties. Additionally a Prairifire is excellent at pollinating other apple trees, acting as a "universal pollinator" for many edible apple varieties that bloom at the same time. Hope this helps!

Q: are the fruits tart and if so how big are the fruits

1 Answer
  • A: The Prairifire Crabapple tree produces small, bitter, greenish-yellow crabapples that are a food source for wildlife, not recommended for human consumption. It is reported they are edible but as long as you do not consume the core and seeds, which contain a compound that can convert to cyanide.

Q: Are these trees returnable? After googling the images of this tree on line, I think this may not be a prairiefire crabapple. Could it have been labeled wrong?

1 Answer
  • A: Tractor Supply customer service should be contacted about return questions. Their customer solutions line is (877) 718-6750. I apologize but your question about images and not being a Prairifire Crabapple are not clear to me. I’m not sure what image you googled. Feel free to reach out to the vendor’s office at 800-833-9493 for questions about the tree.

Strenuous ordeal - apparent final outcome

Have had this type of tree in prior residence and loved it but had difficulty finding any near our new home in Denton, TX. Finally found two via TSC website and call to Lucas TX store and ordered to be delivered. Store manager was very helpful and up beat, Upon delivery was told that one of two in stock was dead and would not be delivered, Delivered tree had no leaves, but I planted it thinking it would come out but after three weeks it didn't.. In the meantime, I found a second tree at TSC in Gainesville, TX, drove up and purchased - lots of healthy leaves. Called the Lucas TSC store to report the planted tree with no leaves and after two days of unreturned calls - finally talked to store manager who miraculusly found another tree at another store - brought it to Lucas and delivered it to my home with no additional charges. That tree is taller than the Gainsville tree and has more healthy leaves. The outcome of a very strenuous ordeal appears to be promising at this point.

Skimpy

We purchased this tree specifically for pollination of our gala apple tree. Since it was ordered online; we didn’t see it until we picked it up. It had no flowers and a tiny bit of foliage. Ended up going to a big box store  the next day-finding something much more substantial for same price or less. Not sure what we’ll do with this one.
