- A: When the headgate is open in reverse for catching the animals head will go through the opening. Then the animal will push it closed with its shoulders causing the doors to catch in the catch plates at the top of the headgate.9 years agoHelpful?

Sturdy made

Very sturdy made but the release handles are made to close to the cows face, so when you reach up to release, they tend to back up instead of move forward out of the chute. Handles need to be away from their face, needs modified.

Heavy duty gate and easy to use from either side. Love the option of this gate that it can be mounted to post allowing solid mounting to the ground.
