Chicken coop Hot Wire

we got our charger to run hot wire around our chicken coop and yard. For the first time in years we are having trouble with mink killing the chickens. It was either get new fencing or hot wire . hot wire was cheaper. So far it is working!

Terrible product. Not what was pictured online

Bought. Waited a week to arrive in store. Once I went to pickup it was not what I ordered online. Was advised was an old picture!! It was half the size of what was online. Terrible.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Install issues: at least 30', but no more than 20'

I bought this fence charger for a three-sided dog run along side of my house. The concern I have with this fence charger is in the instructions to install it. It says not to run an extension cord to it, so that means I need to plug it in at the house. No problem. It says to mount it under shelter. Again, no problem because I have an outlet on the covered porch. Now what do I do about the grounding system? Instructions say it should not be more than 20 ft from the fence controller. The problem is that the ground systems also needs to be at least 30 feet from the house because of "stray voltage", because that's were I have buried phone wires and an underground copper line for my propane tank. So where do I put the grounding system? Go figure. So, I still keep my dog on a tie-out for now, until I have time to discuss this on the phone with a help line. I suggest people figure out the installation issues before purchasing one, to make sure you can meet the requirements.

Thank you for sharing this unusual experience. When using a solar powered energizer, it is extremely important to charge the unit in the off position for 3-4 days in full sun. If the unit is not charged, it may not have enough power in the battery to maintain the fence.
