Q: where do I get the battery? Will it work with a 6 volt dry cell battery?

  • Woodstream Team
A: Yes, this charger can be powered by a 6-volt battery. The American Farm Works 0.7-Joule 15-Mile Battery-Powered Low Impedance Electric Fence Charger is designed to operate with a 6-volt deep-cycle battery. A 6-volt dry cell battery may also be used if it meets the charger’s power requirements, although battery life may vary depending on battery capacity and fence conditions. Replacement 6-volt batteries are commonly available through farm supply stores, hardware stores, battery retailers, and online retailers. Be sure to follow the battery installation instructions in the owner's manual and keep all connections clean and secure for optimal charger performance.

Q: where do I get the battery?

1 Answer
  • Woodstream Team
A: The American Farm Works® 0.7-Joule 15-Mile Battery-Powered Low Impedance Electric Fence Charger uses a 6 or 12-volt deep-cycle battery (battery not included). These batteries are commonly available at farm supply stores, automotive retailers, battery suppliers, and many hardware stores. The charger is designed for use in remote locations where AC power is not available. For best performance, we recommend using a fully charged deep-cycle battery and checking the battery charge regularly during operation. Refer to your charger's manual for additional battery and maintenance recommendations.

Q: will this keep bears out of bee hives. They arepresetl Will this keep bears out of chain link fenced in bee hives? I need this, wire. posts and insulators anything else?

1 Answer
  • Woodstream Team
A: Electric fencing is one of the best defenses to help deter bears, but no system is completely foolproof. Bears are powerful and persistent animals, so it is important to use electric fencing along with other bear-proofing methods. Zareba® Systems and American FarmWorks products are primarily designed for domestic animals, and the company does not provide specific recommendations regarding bears and electric fencing.

American Farm Works 0.7-Joule 15-Mile Battery-Powe

I've had this unit for about 1 year, I rigged up a Harbor Freight 100 watt solar panel & Harbor Freight 12v solar panel battery, my ground is a piece of copper pipe hammered into the ground about a foot. It has worked flawlessly, with zero issues, it'll probably quit tonight since I decided to write this review. I check the output daily and it's always 7000v, weeds don't seem to affect it, have a 50 cow/calf operation and use it separate fields, with a mix of both old wire and polywire. I read where others can't see the light blinking & I agree, you can hear it clicking, wonder why they made it with a crappy light.... I would recommend this product.

Yes, I recommend this product.
