The Kieffer Pear tree has been around since the 1870s and has yet to lose its popularity among fruit tree lovers! Produced by Peter Kieffer as an accidental cross hybridization between Sand Pear and Bartlett Pear. The Pyrus communis Kieffer pear tree produces large, long delicious yellow fruit with a crimson blush overtone. The Kieffer cultivar typically ripens from September to mid-October and requires 350-400 chill hours for best results. Its lush green foliage makes it an optimum landscape tree. Are Kieffer pears good to eat? You bet it! The white flesh of these yellow pears is delicious! The Kieffer pear taste can tantalize your taste buds! It has a crisp, juicy flavor and coarse texture that is excellent for canning, baking pies, preserves, or even eating freshly picked. You may need to let it ripen for a bit before eating the fresh fruit. Store in a cool area after picking until ready to use.

  • The Kieffer variety prefers acidic, well-drained soil and will bloom later in the spring, making it easier to avoid frost. This fast-growing fruit tree can reach heights of up to 15 to 25 feet tall in no time. The Kieffer oriental pear will also grow to be 15-20 feet wide as a full grown pear tree.
  • The Kieffer pear is self-fertile but will produce more fruit if planted in multiples for better cross pollination. This hardy, vigorous tree will produce fruit at a young age and tolerates a variety of climates.
  • Kieffer pear harvest time is mid September or October depending on your location in the United States. The fast growth rate of this tree makes it an excellent choice for fruit tree enthusiasts who are looking for growth and fruit production quickly.
  • This Asian pear tree grows in USDA growing zones 4-9. It is a cold hardy tree and can be grown across most of the United States. The tree includes planting instructions. Water thoroughly the first year of planting to establish a strong root system.
  • Cannot tolerate hot climates like down in South Florida. Grows best in full sun, is fire blight resistant, and bears golden yellow fruit similar to the Bartlett pear. It is also disease resistant.

Trees smaller than advertised.

I bought 5gal pot trees and these are in maybe 1.5gal pots. The trees I received are smaller than what you’d buy from the store. These are not $100 trees. Non returnable so I will have to live with them.
