- A: A Petmate Dog House will provide shelter from weather and as a warm refuge for dogs who are outside with their owners or to enjoy time in the fresh air during the day However, we do not advise heating your dog house with methods that hat could put your pet's life at risk. Some safe solutions are Make sure your outdoor doghouse is in a sunny spot where it can reap the benefits of solar gain. Painting the house a dark color will increase the warmth the house absorbs from the sun. While you're at it, be sure the door of the house is protected from (or at least turned away from) chilly winds. Another way is to raise the dog house off of the cold ground a few inches or providing insulation to the dog house.
