Would this be ideal for a 13 yo, 15.2 hands high mare that is only a little over weight, which exercise will be added to her new routine as well.

Asked by: Mimi1973
Hello, Thanks for the question! The SafeChoice Original product could be a very good solution for your mare. If you feed her according to the directions on the tag for her activity level and bodyweight, and she maintains condition, then we would suggest that product. If you find that she puts on too much weight when fed according to the directions and you need to cut back to prevent her from gaining too much weight, then we would suggest moving her to the Empower Topline Balance product, which would provide the same nutrients, but fewer calories in a smaller serving size. If you have any further questions, please let us know!

Can I use this on a,3 year old colt instead of sweet feed

Asked by: Lynnmillerstauski
Hello, Thanks for the question! Yes, you can definitely use the SafeChoice Original for a 3 year old - it can actually be used on broodmares, foals, through the weanling and yearling years, and on in to maturity. Just ensure you are following the feeding directions according to weight and activity level, to ensure you are providing the proper levels of nutrients.

Should you use a vitamin and mineral supplement such as Horseguard when feeding Safe Choice Original?

Asked by: Perkins
Hello, Thank you for the question. A vitamin/mineral supplement is not needed or recommended when feeding SafeChoice Original, so long as you are feeding according to the directions on the tag for your horse's body weight and activity level. If you are feeding significantly below the recommended amount, then we would recommend switching to Empower Topline Balance, as it provides all the needed nutrients in a smaller daily feeding amount. In either case, a vitamin/mineral supplement would be overkill if you are feeding according to directions on the product you are using.

Can this be used for young deer that are having a hard time gaining weight

Asked by: Helpets
Hello, Thank you for the question. We do not recommend any horse feed for feeding deer, as their nutritional needs differ and feeding a product designed for another species can cause imbalances in the many vitamin and mineral levels and ratios that must be maintained. We would suggest trying Record Rack Golden Deer Nuggets, or Record Rack Sportsman's 20 Deer Feed, both also available at Tractor Supply. Those will help you achieve the weight goals for your deer, while also providing for the overall nutritional needs of a deer.

How does this product compare to LMF Showtime? What type of hay (ie: Alfalfa, Timothy, Local Grass) works best to be compatible not to exceed protein supplement supplied by your product?

Asked by: James A Saccotelli Sr
Hello, Thank you for the question. SafeChoice Original horse feed provides a higher protein and fat content than the LMF product, and also offers guaranteed starch and sugar level maximums, guaranteed levels of both prebiotics and probiotics, and guaranteed levels of biotin for hoof and hair coat quality, and can be fed along with any type of hay or pasture. The SafeChoice Original is also a pelleted form, where the LMF product is a textured form.

Is this the best product for under weight rescue horses?

Asked by: Velcropygmy1
Hello, Thank you for the question. For horses that have been neglected or mal-nourished, we recommend feeding the SafeChoice Senior horse feed - it will be the most easily digestible product for their systems to adapt to. We also recommend starting them with several small meals throughout the day, rather than going right to two main meals per day. It will take them some time to adapt and digest properly without causing other problems.
