When it comes to a place to play, relax or spend time away from guests, outdoor kennels are great options for dogs. Dogs need spaces of their own to calm down and feel safe, and outdoor kennels provide just that. Outdoor kennels are also a good if your backyard isn’t fenced or the fence isn’t adequate to keep your pet from roaming free. Standard chain-link fences are often too short to keep climbers or jumpers in check and diggers from tunneling out. If your pet needs some fresh air and a backyard fence isn’t doing the job, an outdoor kennel may be your answer. Outdoor kennels come in a variety of sizes and shapes to meet your pet’s needs. Outdoor kennels are either considered portable or permanent. Portable kennels can be moved around the yard, while permanent kennels are heavier and designed to stay in one place. Modular kennels are typically crafted from welded wire and have legs that rest on the ground or on a concrete pad. Modular options can be sectioned off for training and made larger as your pet grows. Portable kennels come with square corners or in gazebo style, and can be placed in almost any location or moved throughout the day to keep your dog shaded in warmer months. Kennel covers are an important part of any outdoor kennel configuration. Kennel covers are especially needed for permanent kennels that can’t be moved when the sun is too hot or you plan to let your pet spend time outdoors even during cold or rainy months. A kennel cover should protect in all kinds of weather until you’re able to bring your pet back inside. The right kennel cover should be waterproof and feature a hip roof design so water and snow drain away without creating puddles or doing damage to the cover. A kennel cover should cover the kennel completely, and be well fitted to the kennel frame. Not all kennel cover kits are universal, so be sure you choose the right cover kit for your specific kennel brand. Making your dog comfortable means she’ll be happy in her kennel when not indoors. Kennel accessories, like expansion panels for a larger play area; platforms and ramps for a better view of his or her territory; and winter screens for added wind and sun protection all make for a cozy outdoor retreat.
