Item Information

PetSafe Brand Stubborn Dog In-Ground Fence is the solution to giving your head-headed pets the freedom to play while still keeping them safety contained. A lightweight receiver is worn on your pet's collar, which picks up the radio signal and alerts your pet as he nears the underground boundary. Once your pet is properly trained, he will learn to stay in the designated boundary. Includes 500 feet of boundary wire and 50 boundary flaps, enough to cover about one-third acre. Keep your pets secure while spending a fraction of the cost of traditional fencing.

  • Fits dog 8lbs and up with neck sizes 6 - 28 in.
  • Designed for stubborn and hard-to-train pets
  • Features 4 adjustable levels of static correction plus tone with vibration only mode
  • Vibration mode is ideal for training hearing-impaired dogs
  • Cover up to 1/3 acre with included wire
  • System can be expanded up to 25 acres with the purchase of additonal wire
  • Add an unlimited number of pets with the purchase of additional wire

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not very good long term review here, this fence is ok at best for dogs that are not stubborn. I have 3 dogs it works well for 2 of them, the third will just let the collar battery die and then get out

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great Excellent fence for a stubborn dog. Our dog learned her boundaries within the first day and now is enjoying being able to run free.
Date published: 2019-10-02
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didnt work for my dogs Not the clearest directions. If you have a truly stubborn dog, they will run through it on max setting.

can i lay the wire on the ground and use landscaping staples to hold it in place?

Asked by: opengunner
Thank you for this question! You may use the wire above ground. When doing so you may secure it in place with non-metal products such as plastic lawn stakes or staples. You will also want to make sure it is protected from critters and mowers. For any additional questions you may have please feel free to reach out to us at 1-800-732-2677. We would be happy to help!

Am I able to use the receiver on my own store bought collar? My dog goes through at least 2 collars a year.

Asked by: Phil J
This is a great question, Phil! You may place your receiver on a different collar strap if you wish. When doing so you will want to use a strap the same width so that the receiver will rest properly on your pet. Also, you may use the PetSafe strap as a template to make sure the holes are in the correct placement. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to us at 1-800-732-2677. We would be happy to help!

I only need to do one side of my yard , does this system have to make a loop or can I run a single strand ?

Asked by: PRac
Thank you for your question! The wire does need to be set up in a complete loop, with both ends of the boundary wire connected into the transmitter. However, there is an alternate type of layout we call a "double loop" layout that would allow you to achieve the type of layout that you are describing. You can find instructions on how to set up this type of layout on page 6 of the product manual, which can be found at the following link: https://www.tractorsupply.com/static/sites/TSC/downloads/ProdContentPDFs/3690197_Man1.pdf

I live in the north and in the winter we get a lot of snow, how high off the ground will the system work with our dog walking on top of the snow ?

Asked by: Fredjr55
Thank you for this question! This system will work when there is snow on the ground. The height of the signal will vary depending on factors such as the setting on the transmitter and the amount of wire being used. If you have any additional questions please feel free to reach out to us at 1-800-732-2677. We would be happy to help!

What is the best way to detect a break in the in-ground fence wire?

Asked by: Homer 50
Great question, Homer! When your transmitter alarms, step one is to do the Short Loop Test. If your transmitter passes this test, the next step is to check the splices and high-traffic areas for corrosion or damage. If you are still unable to find the break, you can split the fence in half with a temporary stretch of wire and test each side. If you continue to have trouble, please reach out to us directly at PetSafe for troubleshooting needs.

How many volts do dogs receive?

Asked by: Caballomom
The static correction intensity will vary depending on how the collar is set. While we may not be able to provide voltage information for these products, we can tell you that this collar offers the strongest static levels when set to the highest setting. The lower levels are much milder and it is best to start on these levels and only increase if necessary. Since dogs' necks are not very sensitive usually, some dogs may need that stronger correction to feel anything. We hope this helps. Please feel free to reach out to us directly at 1-800-732-2677 if you have further questions and we'll be happy to see how we can help.

Can I join a 14 gauge wire to the 20 gauge wire?

Asked by: Jenksy1965
Thank you for your great question. While 14-gauge wire will work with this system, it cannot be used together with the included 20-gauge wire. All of your boundary wire for the whole layout should be the same size.

would the transmitter be able to handle a total of 6200 feet of wire

Asked by: out on the farm
The PetSafe Stubborn Dog In-Ground Fence can support up to 10 acres or 2,400 feet of wire. The PetSafe Rechargeable In-Ground Fence System and PetSafe YardMax Rechargeable In-Ground Fence can support up to 25 acres or 4,100 feet of wire however the correction levels are not as strong as the Stubborn Dog Collar. You may want to consider the fence made by our sister company SportDOG Brand. The SportDOG In-Ground Fence can cover up to 100 acres or 8,350 feet of wire and the static correction levels are comparable to the Stubborn Dog Collar. We hope this helps!
