Item Information

PetSafe Basic In-Ground Fence keeps your pet safely contained in your yard. The system can be installed in about a weekend by burying the boundary wire in your yard and setting up the transmitter. Mark the boundary with the provided flags and then you can begin to train your dog. Most dogs learn their new boundaries in as little as two weeks.

  • If your pet gets too close to the yard boundary, the waterproof receiver collar reminds your pet with a warning beep, followed by a safe, static correction if he continues
  • Add an unlimited number of pets by purchasing an extra collar for each pet

Hello, I just purchased a wireless fence system and due to my property size and shape I will need to purchase the in ground wire system to better suit my dogs needs. Will the transmitters I currently have work with the other system? They look the same.

Asked by: gigi0923
Thank you for the question. Our wireless and in-ground fences do work on different frequencies. Although some of the equipment is similar in appearance, the wireless and in-ground equipment will not work with one another.

Our house is elevated on pilings can the loop be installed on the top of the pilings then dropping down to the ground to the perimeter of one side of the property and back to the pilings and up. With the range at 1-2' the dog could walk under high loop.

Asked by: Tom19963
Hi Tom, thank you for your question! You cannot attach the wiring to your pilings, as the wire must be buried or laid on top of the ground. Additionally, depending on where it is attached, any electrical wiring nearby or cables going up into your home can pick up the radio frequency, and disperse it throughout the containment area and your residence. For layout and installation assistance, please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care Team at 1-800-732-2677.

Can my dog swim in the pool with the collar on?  Will it hurt her or the collar?

Asked by: Tmaestro
Thank you for your great question! The collar is waterproof and it is perfectly safe for your dog to wear it while swimming. You will just want to ensure that all removable parts (contact points, battery, correction level cover) are screwed in nice and snug so.

I saw on a previous post that the maximum wire length is 1800' but this system covers 5 acres. I have an area that is about 200x1000 which is about 5 acres but the perimeter is about 2400'. Do I need a different system?

Asked by: RomuSyr
Thank you for your great question. The amount of wire needed to cover a specific size area can vary depending on the shape of the property. For example, a 5 acre rectangle-shaped lot will need more wire than a 5 acre square-shaped lot. This system can work with about 1,800 feet of wire at maximum. If you will need more than 1,800 feet of wire, the fence found through this link will be more suitable for you:

Will this work under 4 feet of snow or more

Asked by: doghouse3
Thanks for your question! The radio signal which is sent out from the wire would not be negatively affected by snow. If there are multiple feet of snow on the ground, however, you may need to turn up the boundary dial on the transmitter unit, which would send the signal out a bit further and make up for the extra height that the snow has added to the ground level.

How deep must the wire be buried?

Asked by: swcary
Thank you for your great question. The wire should be buried about 1-3 inches deep. However, if your yard is aerated regularly, it may be wise to bury the wire about 4-6 inches deep to avoid the chance of damage.

Can this wire bet cut and divided up? For example, half in the back yard and half in the front?

Asked by: Kswain85
Thank you for your great question. With the In-Ground Fence, the wires must create only a single completed loop. You don't want to split up the wires into multiple loops. If you need assistance planning your fence layout, please feel free to reach out to us directly at 1-800-732-2677, and we'll be happy to help.
