Q: Does the unit use white expanded polystyrene (EPS)? My current unit does and I am able to see it when I look through the vents. It lets a lot of light into the room from the outdoors (through the cold air vents) so it's difficult to sleep during the day.

  • A: Hello. Thank you for your question regarding the LG Window Air Conditioner, model LW6017R. The LW6017R unit does utilize white expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam inside the chassis for thermal insulation and efficiency. Because window air conditioners require an open path for proper airflow exchange between the indoors and outdoors, a small amount of ambient outdoor light can sometimes filter through the interior vents into a darkened room. To help minimize the light entering your room, we recommend installing a light-blocking outdoor window awning or shade canopy directly above the exterior of the unit to shield it from direct sunlight without blocking the side or rear airflow vents. If you need further assistance on your inquiry or if you have further questions, please send us an email at lgdigitalcare@lg.sprinklrsupport.com. ^James

Q: In the Specifications > Features list for the LW6017R, it states that there is an Outdoor Vent / Exhaust option. I can't find this option in the manual, and everywhere else seems to state that this option does not exist - that it does. Who's right?

  • A: Hi Jimmerz, thanks for reaching out about your LW6017R — we understand how confusing it can be when the specs mention an Outdoor Vent/Exhaust option but the manual doesn’t show anything about it. For this model, the spec sheet is correct in listing “Outdoor Vent / Exhaust,” but it refers to the standard rear exhaust airflow built into all window AC units — not a user‑controlled vent lever. A quick step you can try: • Check the front panel for a vent open/close slider — the LW6017R does not include one, which is why you won’t find it in the manual Here’s the official LG manual for your model: • https://www.lg.com/us/support/product/lg-LW6017R.AC1AUSB If you need further assistance, feel free to email lgdigitalcare@lg.sprinklrsupport.com. ‑LG Digital Care Team ^Rich

Q: What is the lowest temperature you can set on this model? 60? 64?

  • A: Hello Jeremy, thanks for reaching out, and we understand why you’d want to know the lowest temperature setting on the LW6017R—getting the room as cool as you like is the whole point of choosing the right AC. This model allows you to set the thermostat as low as 60°F, and it can be adjusted anywhere between 60°F and 86°F. If the unit isn’t reaching the temperature you expect, make sure the airflow isn’t blocked and the filter is clean, since restricted airflow can prevent the AC from cooling properly. Here’s the LG USA manual link with the exact temperature range listed: https://www.lg.com/us/support/product/lg-LW6017R.AT1AUSH?tab=1 If you need further assistance, feel free to email lgdigitalcare@lg.sprinklrsupport.com. ‑LG Digital Care Team ^Rich

However, we recommend cleaning the filter every two weeks and not replacing it every six months. Use a soft cloth to clean the appliance. Do not use waxes, thinners, or harsh detergents. Q: My AC has collected quite a lot of mold inside of it, should I keep it and clean it or should I buy a new one? If I should keep it, are there any specific things I should use or ways to clean it?

  • A: Hey there. We recommend regular maintenance of your LG A/C if it collects mold. Mold can affect the performance and air quality of your air conditioner. To address this issue, follow these steps: 1. Ensure the unit is powered off and unplugged from the power source before performing maintenance. 2. Clean the evaporator coils (inside the front grille) and condenser coils (outside the unit) using a mild detergent and tap water. Allow the unit to dry completely. 3. Check the air filter and wash it with lukewarm water to remove mold or debris. 4. To prevent mold growth in the future, consider using an A/C cover and tie it down securely to protect the unit from the elements. If the issue persists, private message us on social media @LGUSSupport with your contact details. We'll be waiting for your message so we can help you further. ^David

So far so good

Have had this for two weeks and am happy so far. I've never been a fan of air conditioning but can no longer tolerate the high heat and humidity so....this is taking care of that problem better than I expected for the price. The only issue is that the clean filter light has come on and the filter is clean. Minor problem and better it errs on the side of necessity. I am also very thrilled at how quickly it dries up our extreme Midwest humidity. Installation was exactly the projected fifteen minutes. Hope it continues to work as well as it is currently. I suppose the noise might be a problem if stuff like that bothered me but it works for me by blocking neighborhood noise which means I sleep better. Thanks!

unusual mold growth

This is a well-made AC two of which we are replacing after 3 or 4 years of use because of unusual mold growth. We've had many window ACs but I've never seen this kind of mold growth. It drained well to the outside.

Disappointing.

In late spring of this year I replaced an LG 6000 BTU air conditioner with another LG. After just a few months I noticed from the outside of the hast the back side of the unit was all rusty. Also, I bought the model because the description said it was quiet to run. It definitely was not. Sorry to say how disappointing this has been.

Hello there! Thank you for sharing your LG A/C experience with us. We'd love to help restore the look of your unit to get it looking cool again! To get started with the rust, we recommend following our maintenance guide on our page at http://spr.ly/6426oB4Tw. This LG A/C model was designed for maximum performance. If you're experiencing loud noise during operation, this is likely normal but can be reduced by turning down the fan setting. If the noise is related to vibration, it could be caused by improper installation. We recommend referring to the installation instructions in your owner's manual for more information. If you still need help with your LG A/C, please follow up with us on social media @LGUSSupport with your contact info. We're here and eager to help! *Joseph
