Before pursuing a replacement, it's worth isolating whether the issue is the controller itself or the fence line, since that voltage drop is often caused by external factors rather than the unit. Disconnect the fence and ground wires directly from the controller, then test the output at the terminals alone; if it reads above 2,000 volts in this disconnected state, the controller itself is working properly and the drop is coming from the fence line or grounding, such as vegetation touching the wire, a loose connection, a cracked insulator, or inadequate grounding (as a rule of thumb, about three feet of ground rod per joule of output is recommended).

Bad out of the box

Read description on website and it looked like a pretty good buy, high output power at a relatively low price. I ordered it online for curbside pickup at my local store
I took it out of the box when I got it home from the store and heard a rattle. Shook it a little bit and there was something distinctly loose and rattling around inside the case. I returned it the next day.

horrible product and customer service

Absolutely do not buy one of these. I have had 4 go bad in the last year. I bought the power plus warranty!!! Do not buy it either. It is not in force until the manufacture warranty runs out. Called AMF customer service, was told it would be 2 weeks for a replacement. Called Tractor Supply customer service spoke with Amanda was told I need to talk to America Customer Service, They said their is a different department and transferred me to American Farm Works again. Called Customer service back and somehow ended up with Amanda again, She told me maybe call power plus and see what they will do. Nothing that is what everyone at Tractor Supply will do, Absolutely nothing. Buy a better product somewhere else, Anywhere else it can't be any worse than this one.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Since you've had four units fail, it's worth checking whether the issue may be related to grounding or surge exposure rather than the units themselves, as AC-powered chargers are commonly damaged by lightning strikes or power surges traveling back through the fence line or ground system when the grounding setup is inadequate. Using at least three ground rods spaced properly, keeping the ground system separate from other electrical grounds, and adding a lightning diverter or disconnecting the charger during storms can significantly reduce repeat damage from this cause.
