Q: How long will this fence last being used 24-7

1 Answer
  • Woodstream Team
A: When used 24/7, the American Farm Works 1,320 ft. x 180 lb. Polywire Electric Fencing is designed for continuous outdoor use and should last several seasons under normal conditions. Its lifespan depends on exposure to weather, sunlight, and how it’s handled on the fence line. To help it last longer: - Keep it off the ground where possible. - Avoid sharp edges and abrasive contact. - Store unused lengths out of direct sunlight. If you notice wear or damage, replace the section to maintain reliable performance.

Q: We have installed this wire and all we get is a slight tickle. Weve doible checked and nothing is touching. And shorting it out. We even tried several different chargers

A: Thank you for reaching out! Given that you're only getting a slight tickle despite double-checking for shorts and trying different chargers, we recommend performing a no-load test with a fence tester. This will help you determine how many volts the charger is actually putting out. Please also note that this wire is not designed to function under extreme tension and must be used in conjunction with a permanent fence.

Q: Why is polywire so much cheaper than polyrope? I can’t figure out the major differences. I am trying to do intensive rotational grazing, so move every 24hrs, with 1 mini jersey cow.

1 Answer
  • Woodstream Team
A: Thank you very much for contacting us. Polywire is cheaper because it's lighter and made for temporary use, ideal for frequent moves. Polyrope is thicker, more durable, and suited for long-term setups, which makes it more expensive.

Affordable option to electric steel wire. Both the animals and people can recognize it as hot wire. Easier to install too.

Not happy

The same wire I purchased last year was a heavier gauge. I really don't like this thiner wire. Will have to look else where. Keep quality even if price increases would have been a better plan.
