Q: How long after applying paint can clear be sprayed on?

1 Answer
  • A: The Majic Reducer and Hardener can both be added to the Majic 1 gal. Ford Red Tractor Truck & Implement Enamel Paint 8-2954-1 so that it can be sprayed. The finish can be clear coated with the Majic Clear Coat High Gloss Lacquer. Please inform the customer to follow all instructions on the label including: SURFACE PREPARATION: Surface must be clean, dry, and free of dust, dirt, oily residue, and grease. Gloss TT&I should be lightly sanded with 400 grit paper or equivalent Scotch Brite Pad. Remove sanding dust by wiping surface with a tack rag or damp cloth. Allow final coat of Majic TT&I to cure for 14 days before applying Majic Clear Coat. Not waiting the full cure time of the enamel may cause lifting and wrinkling of the finish coat. APPLICATION: Stir thoroughly before use. Product is best applied by conventional or HVLP spray, but may be applied with a good quality, natural bristle brush. Product is delivered as “ready-to-spray” and should not require reduction. Do NOT mix Majic Catalyst Hardener with Majic Clear Coat. Apply Majic Clear Coat in even passes, overlapping each pass by 50%, to a uniform applied thickness of 3.5 mils wet (yields > 1.0 mil dry film thickness). Do not apply in direct sunlight, when temperatures (air and surface) are below 50◦F, nor when relative humidity is greater than 60%. If needed, a second coat may be applied after 24 hours. Do NOT thin. DRYING: Dries to touch in approximately 6-8 hours. Re-coat time is 24 hours. NOTE: Dry-to-touch and allowable re-coat times are based on application at 77◦F with relative humidity at 50% or below. Application in cooler temperatures and/or during periods of higher humidity will slow the drying and re-coat times of Majic Clear Coat. Strict adherence to the recommended applied thickness and allowable re-coat times are necessary to best ensure proper drying and curing of Majic Clear Coat. COVERAGE: Approximately 460 sq. ft. per gallon on primed, smooth, non-porous surfaces. Theoretical coverage figures do not include spray loss, loss due to surface irregularities and porosity, nor material loss when mixing.

Q: What can I use to clear coat this paint with?John

1 Answer
  • A: When reducing, and catalyzing Majic Tractor, Truck & Implement Enamels, the ratios are as follows: • Reducer: the recommended rate of reduction is 8:1 (8 parts Majic T&I Enamel to 1 part Majic Reducer). Majic Reducer is a proprietary blend of “exempt” solvents that adds 0 VOC to the host product (finish product remains VOC compliant). While 8:1 is a good place to start, many factors. Including type of equipment, atmospheric condition at the time of application, & personal preferences, will ultimately determine the best ratio for reduction. • Catalyst Hardener: Majic Catalyst Hardener is to be mixed with the Majic T&I Finish Enamel at a rate of 16:1 (16 parts Majic T&I Enamel to 1 part Majic Catalyst Reducer). Be sure to follow all mixing, safety and disposal instructions printed on the product label.

Q: WHAT TO USE TO THIN THE PAINT? OR CLEAN PAINT GUN?

1 Answer
  • A: The recommended reducer for Majic Tractor, Truck & Implement Enamels is Majic Reducer, #8-0750, and is available at TSC stores. Majic Reducer is a proprietary blend of “exempt” solvents that, when mixed with Majic Tractor & Implement Primers or Enamels, allow the host product to remain VOC compliant (VOC’s = Volatile Organic Compounds that contribute to smog, air pollution and air quality). The recommended ratio for mixing = 8:1 (8 parts Majic T&I Enamel to 1 part Majic Reducer)... depending on the type of spray equipment used and the atmospheric conditions at the time of application, more (or less) Majic Reducer may be added as needed, without compromise to the applied film. Regarding application, please follow package directions carefully with special attention to the recommended applied thickness (2.5 mils wet) and the allowable recoat times (24 hours minimum). Optimum application and drying will occur when product is applied with air & surface temps are in the mid-70’ F., and relative humidity is lower than 50% (both should remain reasonably constant for 12-16 hours following application). Application at lower temps, and/or a higher humidity will slow the overall drying/curing time – and will require more time before the applied film may be recoated. Clean up equipment & spills with Mineral Spirits, or VM&P Naptha.

Q: what would I use to thin this paint for spray gun

1 Answer

Q: Can this red be used on a wood shed, T111 type siding?

1 Answer
  • A: Majic Tractor, Truck & Implement Enamels are very hard-drying oil/alkyd coatings that are designed for application to steel and metal surfaces, providing excellent adhesion, durability and corrosion resistance. Application to exterior wood siding is NOT recommended as the film dries too rigid to accommodate the naturally occurring expansion and contraction of exposed wood (and specifically T1-11 plywood). An applied film of Majic Tractor & Implement Enamel to such substrates would result in film cracking, and ultimate peeling from surface.

Q: Can you mix it with lacquer thiner

1 Answer
  • A: Please see the manufacture's response below. Majic Tractor, Truck & Implement Enamels are high solids, VOC Compliant, industrial alkyd coatings that demonstrate exceptional adhesion & corrosion resistance. Majic Tractor & Implement Enamels is not compatible with Lacquer Thinner, and can not be used for reduction, nor clean-up. Thin only with Majic Reducer, #8-0750, in accordance to package directions – Majic Reducer is a proprietary blend of “exempt” solvents that adds 0 VOC to the host product. Tools, spills and equipment may be cleaned up with Mineral Spirits.

Paint use

It was clear the paint had been at one point frozen because the mandated reducer amount would not get it sprayed through the gun. I have used this paint many times and always had wonderful results. This was a first.

Best finish for the $

This paint works very well when applied as it should be. Use the correct spray gun and good clean air source and of course clean sanded and primed surface go slow and give it plenty of time between coats. this paint is very durable and will last for decades if you use it like your supposed to.
