For spray application of Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm and Implement Paint, we recommend thinning only the paint that you are going to use for this project and gradually thinning only as much as necessary using mineral spirits. Q: Can this be applied directly to previously painted surfaces if they are in good condition (i.e., clean, no rust or scaling or oxidation) without primer? Also, is this oil based and requires mineral spirits for clean up?

- A: PREVIOUSLY COATED: Previously coated surfaces must be sound and in good condition. Smooth, hard, or glossy finishes should be scarified by sanding to create a surface profile. Farm Equipment Enamels are compatible with most coatings, but a test patch is suggested. APPLICATION Apply only when air and surface temperatures are between 50-90°F (10-32°C) and the relative humidity is below 85% to ensure proper drying. Stir thoroughly before using. Do not thin with gasoline, lacquer thinner or turpentine.5 years agoHelpful?

The paint has been very durable so far. Most importantly, it is an exact color match to my JD imatch hitch. The paint was brushed on, not apply through a gun. It still looked great.

Bought this to touch up areas (bolt heads mainly) on an old John Deere Model A I am restoring. I am painting the tractor with an automotive BC/CC paint so I wasn't sure how well this paint was going to match. I was shocked how well this paint matched my current paint job, you can't even tell which areas are touched up or not! The color is a perfect match and the gloss is very respectable too, again not too much different from my BC/CC job, just ever so slightly duller but honestly it is so close nobody would ever be able to tell. So far this paint has exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend it!
