Q: What is the thinning ratio

1 Answer
  • Rust-OleumSupport
A: We're happy to help! If you are applying Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm and Implement Paint using an air-atomized sprayer it can be thinned up to 15% by volume using mineral spirits. Thinning for an airless sprayer is not typically required, but can be thinned up to 5% if needed. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

Q: Can I paint my 2008 Chevy Avalanche with this? Because I saw a guy paint a Honda Odyssey with it on YouTube and it came out amazing.

1 Answer
  • Rust-OleumSupport
A: Let’s talk about this, Eric! You can absolutely use Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm and Implement Red Oxide Metal Primer to prime your Avalanche in preparation for a topcoat, however, you can’t leave it without a topcoat. We would recommend topcoating with Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm and Implement Paint. One coat of primer and 2 coats of paint, allowing 24 hours between coats. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/rust-oleum-specialty-farm-implement-gloss-international-harvester-red-1-qt - Rust-Oleum Product Support 15

Q: Can I spay this over body filler

1 Answer
  • Rust-OleumSupport
A: Thank you for reaching out, Bobby. While Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm & Implement Paint provides a durable finish, it has not been tested for use over a body filler. We recommend first applying a small test application to an inconspicuous area to ensure the results are as desired. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

This Is The Stuff!

This primer appears to be the stuff used on structural steel in buildings. You'll notice it's much heavier than regular enamel because it seems to contain quite a bit of metal powder. It's probably zinc. The metal powder sinks to the bottom of the can, so stiring and mixing is extremely important. Thick stuff is thick, and I would only brush it on for maximum adhesion. Short of going to some marine grade metal primer, this stuff is probably your next best option.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good primer for metal.

The primer is great. I used it successfully over light surface rust for a good base to apply tractor paint. Make sure you mix VERY well before application. I used an electric pump less sprayer.

Yes, I recommend this product.
