Q&As

1 - 4 of 4 Questions

Q: how do you properly prime galvanized metal? You don't want to sand it.

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Neighbor! To properly prime galvanized metal, you'll need to clean the surface, apply a suitable primer, and allow it to dry before painting. Galvanized metal requires special attention as its zinc coating can interfere with paint adhesion

Q: I just painted my side by side with this paint and after i got done i read about a hardner for this paint. Will it get hard and dry without it? It does not say gloss white part 1 or part A like most 2 part paints would say.

Anonymous2 years ago
1 Answer
  • A: Per the product specifications this paint Will Dry to Touch 5-10 hours, without the hardner This paint is a gloss paint, the optional harder gives it a little more durability and shine.

Q: I need to paint a transfer fuel tank and was wondering how well does this paint look when applying with a brush on Steel ?

1 Answer
  • A: Majic Tractor, Truck & Implement Enamel is great for application by brush – I would recommend reduction between 5-10% with Majic Reducer for a couple reasons….(1) Majic T&I Enamels are high solids, industrial oil/alkyd coatings – reducing with Majic Reducer allows the applied product better “flow & leveling” to eliminate, or minimize, brush marks from drying into the film…and (2) it is critical that Majic T&I coatings be applied in thin coats (recommended @ 2.5 mils wet) and to allow 24 hours (minimum) to recoat - as too heavy an application, and/or recoating too soon will result in an applied film that won’t dry “hard” for several days…or longer. Remember when painting with enamels to use a high quality, natural – or synthetic bristle brush, do not apply paint too heavily, do not overwork applied paint, and avoid painting in direct sunlight…

Q: Should I sand between coats of paint ?

1 Answer
  • A: Majic Tractor, Truck and Implement Enamels are high quality industrial oil/alkyd coatings that offers excellent protection and durability to painted surfaces…We do recommended sanding between coats of oil/alkyd coatings as the profile, created by sanding, allows for a much greater mechanical bond (increased adhesion) between coats of enamel, or between primer and enamel coats. Scuff sanding between coats also minimizes the risk of film “chipping” when exposed to the common “wear & tear” of industrial alkyd coating. Be sure when applying product to read, and follow, carefully the label instructions – especially pertaining to the recommended thickness of the applied coating, and the “allowable” recoat time – following these directions will provide for the best performance, adhesion, and durability – as well as fastest drying, and proper curing, of the applied coating.

Happy with results. Time will tell

Painting a previously painted aluminum boat. I brushed on first coat. It went slow. paint heavy and thick. Then I mixed paint thinner, 5%. It brushed on better. Scuffed it with 220 and rolled on paint with roughly 5% thinner using a 3/16" mohair mini roller. It self settles. Came out really smooth and shiny. Weather was cool and damp so I waited at least 36 hours between coats 1 and 2. Coat 3 was a touchup I did within an hour of coat 2.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good Paint but slow to dry

I used this paint to paint a fender. Used Majic's catalyst and Majic's Reducer to thin it at the proportions stated by Majic. 1:16 for the catalyst and 1:8 for the reducer. It took 3 days to dry, but I did realize that it was spraying on pretty thick and I have a couple of fish eyes I believe due to air bubbles and not contaminents. I need to apply a second coat, this time I will reduce it it to 1:4 (that's 1 part reducer to 4 parts paint). I am hoping that this will thin it enough so I can drop the air pressure to 40 psi and put on a thin enough coat that I can re-coat a couple of hours later. This definitely provides a harder and better paint finish than rust-oleum, so I hope thinning it more does the trick. I will post my results.

Yes, I recommend this product.

VERY SLOW DRYING

I mixed 2 parts paint to 1 part acetone and added 6% gloss hardener/drying accelerator. I thought perhaps I had sprayed over an incompatible paint as it was taking so long to dry, it wasn't. After about 3 days it finally dried. For the next coat I used my oil based enamel rustoleum with the same ratios, it dried in 2 hours. I do not recommend this paint unless you want to save a few dollars and don't have to worry about bugs/debri getting into your paint while drying.

No, I do not recommend this product.
