Q: is this paint ok to spray on the engine ,transmission and rear axle housing ?
5 years ago1 Answer
- A: Majic Tractor, Truck & Implement Enamels are very hard drying, rust inhibitive oil/alkyd coatings that demonstrate excellent adhesion, plus abrasion and impact resistance, and heat resistance to approximately 250° F. The surface must be clean, dry and free of all foreign matter (including grease, oil, loose or flaking rust & paint, etc.) prior to painting. Prime all exposed steel surfaces with either Sandable Gray, or Red Oxide Primer and allow to dry thoroughly before applying 2 finish coats of Ford Red, #8-2954… This system, when applied according to package directions will Please read and follow package directions carefully – with special attention to the recommended applied thickness (2.5 mils wet), and the allowable recoat times (24 hours minimum) – Too heavy an application, and/or re-coating too soon will result in a film that won’t dry “hard” for several days…or longer.5 years agoHelpful?
Q: Is Tractor, Truck, & Implement designed to be sprayed on bare metal or should the metal be primed first.
6 years ago1 Answer
- A: This product can be used on iron, steel, aluminum and primed galvanized metal.6 years agoHelpful?
Q: What is the typical dry time between coats at say 80 degrees and is thinning necessary?
6 years ago1 Answer
- A: Majic Tractor, Truck & Implement Coatings are high solids, hard-drying, corrosion resistant, oil/alkyd coatings that exhibit exceptional adhesion and protection to the surface being painted. When applied in accordance to package directions (specifically at the recommended applied thickness of 2.5 mils wet, and at moderate surface & temperatures with relative humidity at, or less than, 50%), the “tack-free” time is usually between 4-6 hours, and the “allowable” recoat time is 24 hours (thin application / 24 hours between coats). Too heavy an application, and/or re-coating too soon will result in a film that won’t dry “hard” for several days… or longer. We do recommend light sanding between coats with 350 grit paper, or a fine Scotch Brite pad. For spray application, we recommend the product be thinned 8:1 with Majic Reducer*, #8-0750, (8 parts Majic T&I Enamel to 1 part Majic Reducer). Proper reduction is necessary for a fine atomization of product, and aids both in the flow & leveling of the applied film, and in controlling, and maintaining, the recommended applied thickness of the film. *Majic Reducer is a proprietary blend of “exempt” solvents, that is a perfect mix with Majic T&I Primers & Enamels. Majic Reducer adds 0 VOC’s to the mix, and allows the host product to remain VOC compliant. For cleaning spills, tools & equipment, use Mineral Spirits, or Paint Thinner.6 years agoHelpful?
Q: If I use this paint , how long do I need to wait before applying clear coat? completely dry or tacky ? Ive heard both ways
8 years ago1 Answer
- A: The solvent structure of Majic Clear Coat, while similar to that of the Tractor & Implement Enamels, is of greater strength and concentration than the finish enamels. As a result, and to minimize the risk of a reaction from the stronger solvents, the final coat of Enamel must cure – a minimum of 10-14 days before applying Majic Clear Coat. Applying Clear Coat before finish enamel has cured properly may result in wrinkling of the one, or both, applied films.8 years agoHelpful?

worked fine with brushing and thin coats
High variability in reported results! In my case, I bought a quart of red as a test run. I brushed a couple thin coats onto wood, sanding between to level out. I used the paint from the can for the first try and, as I recall, a little Xylene on the second try. (I sanded off the first coat and redid, but not strictly fault of the paint.) I liked it better with a little thinner to encourage flow-out. In both case, I focussed on laying a thin but even coat. It dried well overnight, but feels a bit soft. I suspect it is like my favorite (but now rather expensive) Petit Hobbypoxy that it will take a month to get fully hard. Reflecting on other reviews' success and failure, I am guessing film thickness is playing into how well it hardens.
Yes, I recommend this product.

This paint is Awesome! It goes on smooth and easy, it's very durable, and the price is pretty cheap! I haven't found paint like this anywhere else, the closest I found was a lot more expensive.
