Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average cooker for price. Put the system together with booklet in hand. Found the directions weren’t well written, but with determination accomplished set up. Did burn in, by the absolute directions. Found during that time the temp was erratic to accomplish a 350º constant temp had to set dial at 375. Contacted the camp chef chat and was told to adjust the height of the chimney cap by ½” until temp was constant. That this was normal as the system gets broken in. Since set up on 11 Dec 2018 we have cooked 5 racks of ribs (3 fires), a brisket and chicken. So, I would think over 5 fires and clean up the grill would be broken in. Due to erratic temps I purchased a thermometer to monitor the barbecue temps and the meat temp. I also added a simple oven thermometer on the rack. I set the temp to high smoke which should be 220 with a + or – of 10º. What I found over the course of 6 hours of cooking opening once the temps varied from 189º to 262º. In fact, at the 6th hour I checked and realized the grill had shut itself off without any dial changes. The grill has smoke pro competition blend pellets, we have kept the pellet level nearly full. An insulation cover to assist in keeping temps constant. The last session was the packer cut brisket done over multiple hours. This was the documented temps and time mentioned. The supposed beauty of a pellet grill is to be able to set it up and not monitor constantly as we have done for years in our wood fired smoker. This is not the case. The meat we have cooked has come out well, but there is not much advantage, and a considerable cost. Plan to set up a warranty replacement of entire system or correction of erratic temperature controls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I got the SmokePro SE for my 50th birthday last month. So far I've done a Boston Butt, spare ribs, smoked wings, a wood-fired pizza, buffalo turds and an apple pie. I even simmered some chili in a dutch oven on it for a few hours. I've had a Bradley and a Masterbuilt electric smoker in the past...this puts them to shame. I've been barbecuing in 30-50 degree weather and have had no trouble holding temp. Great smoke ring, good flavor, easy cleanup...I'm hooked! My only 'complaint' is that it is recommended to remove unused pellets after each use. The model I got does not have a 'pellet dump' so I have to remove the screws from the grate in the hopper to scoop them out. The screws are small - so with cold hands and a good buzz they're easy to drop.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice grill. Too bad about damage. Grill works wonderfully. (Thankfully, being as it arrived damaged most likely by shipper. The pellet hopper on on the end is patially caved in making the handle less than useful. The item was just left in my driveway so returning it right then wasnt an option and I'd already waited quite a while for delivery, so naturally I was anxious to put the grill to use. Assembly was a breeze! Had it together and ready to load pellets in about 20 minutes. The UP arrow on the carton was facing sideways so obviously somebody wasn't paying attention and due to the weight of the grill (+100 lbs.) Its probably how the damage occured. As far as cookinl with the grill its easy and great. Cleanup is a breeze also!

Grilling steaks is as easy as turning the grill to high and letting it warm up for 7-10 minutes before putting the steaks on the grill grate.

How do the pellets ignite? Does it need to have a power cord?

Asked by: JeepManWilley
The pellets ignite via an electric hot rod. This unit does have a power cord that needs to be plugged in for the electrical components to work.
