Stokes Select Squirrel Proof Cage Feeder is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not squirrel proof at all! The design of the top of the bird feeder is poor. The squirrels figure it out quickly and end up chewing the rubber washer and then chewing the tube, ruining the feeder. You can say as you have in your responses to put the feeder where a squirrel can't get it, but then why spend the extra money for a squirrel proof feeder. If you put a feeder where a squirrel can't get to it then you can just get a regular bird feeder. Don't call it squirrel proof if it really isn't. Maybe put metal at the top of the tube, so the squirrels can't chew it??

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Only for smaller birds The birds seem to love it-but only small ones. The grid is too small to allow Cardinals in and they have tried. But it keeps out the squirrels and is easy to fill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I own 3 and am buying 3 more After 30 years of this, and a shed full of cast off bird feeders, these have risen to the top. Today I had 3 male painted buntings and 5 females using my two feeders in Florida with straight white millet. This summer I took one of these to our northern summer camp and ran straight white millet and had indigo buntings reliably!!!! We have tried for years to get them to come in. You want buntings? White millet with these feeders has worked for us. Our squirrels are too busy destroying the other squirrel proof feeders to bother with these. We run at least 10 feeders and 8 watering stations....When squirrel proof feeders that have springs and mechanics get old, sometimes they won't protect the feed. These Stokes feeders have no moving parts to get old and rusty. But I am telling you right now, no mixed blend feeds. I used a mixed blend in one of these feeders and watched birds pick through what they didn't want and drop it to the ground. Now straight seed goes in each feeder and the waste has stopped. My next experiment will be to run straight black oil in a dedicated feeder far away from my buntings. I think our tufted titmice will be able to use it, but the cardinals...we'll have to see. The waterers bring everyone in, and carefully placed feeders reward the seed eaters. The native plants provide the insects for the non seed eaters. Incorportate these feeders into your bird feeding gallery and watch. You will be pleased.
