Q: Which adjustment increases the weight of the door closer. Up or down. Position 1 heavier than Position 4?

1 Answer
  • AI-generated
A: To increase the weight tension, you should connect the springs into the lower holes. There are seven tension settings in total; connecting the springs into the lower holes discourages squirrels by making the ports close more easily under their weight.

Q: In the last week I have found two goldfinches with their heads caught inside corner of the bottom hole. They couldn't get free and I had to pull them loose. One survived, one didn't. I have removed the feeder.

1 Answer
  • A: The sensitivity level can be adjusted by moving the spring hook into any of the 4 anchor spots in the middle of the red bard. The feeder comes preset on the second anchor spot; however, none of the anchor spots should cause a trigger with the weight of a finch.

Keeps Starlings From Devouring All Your $ $eed!

Besides being highly effective against the squirrels, this 'Royal Wing Squirrel B Gone' feeder has excellent tension-adjustability to keep even nuisance BIRDS like starlings and grackles from devouring huge amounts of feeder's contents (set it's 2 tension-springs into the HIGHEST of 8 holes holes at base...4 for for each side/spring). Or, if you wish to discourage ONLY the squirrels, then connect springs into the LOWER of the 8 holes (thus, you have 7 tension settings in all). At the lightest tension, only a SINGLE starling alighting onto a perch MAY be able to get a morsel now-and-then with persistence but the weight of TWO of them will shut all 6 ports off completely (however, then, only two SMALL birds can dine at a time comfortably before intermittent closure with a 3rd one). Just increase tension from there to your liking (feeder's 6 ports close immediately when a squirrel grabs onto its side at ANY of its 7 tension settings). I self-measured and confirmed that this 'Royal Wing Squirrel B Gone' feeder's capacity regarding dense, mixed-seed, is 8 cups (equaling 2+1/2 pounds). NOW, I can provide the small (and ONLY the small birds) with the best and most savory, expensive, quality seed/nut mixtures without those greedy flocks of nuisance-birds consuming it all within hours!

Squirrels should run for President

Does NOT keep squirrels or large birds out. These feeders are strong, look nice and hold a large amount of seed, so you don't fill as often, but face it, squirrels should run for President...they can figure a way to get away with anything.

Looks Great

I like the feeder. It holds alot if seeds. I do see it does not take much weight at all to bring down the squirrel cage. This limits birds eating to about 1. So not the beat design in respects to the cage. I may engineer a way to keep it in place seeing I don't have squirrels at the moment.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great quality, and excellent customer service

I recently purchased a metal rooster yard ornament for my son’s girlfriend’s birthday. She loved it! They raise chickens, and it fits in their home perfectly, and is quite a conversation piece! The Wareham Massachusetts store is fantastic! The staff are always welcoming, pleasant, and extremely helpful.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Very hard to clean and a potential bird trap

I bought this feeder about a year ago and the only good thing about is that it is indeed squirrel-proof. Unfortunately it's impossible to thoroughly clean. The bottom is not accessible and you can't remove it to clean it. The seeds just end up in the bottom in a cake like form. You can take most of the exterior apart but you can never get to the bottom. The WORST PART was that two chickadees found themselves trapped inside trying to get to the seeds at the bottom. Literally inside the feeder. Fortunately I was able to get them out safely. Probably my fault for not keeping the feeder full but still, that shouldn't happen. After this second time I've taken it down and I'm looking for a new one.
