- A: You can purchase plugs if you choose. The holes in your kayak are called scuppers. Scupper holes let the water that has splashed into your sit on top kayak drain out, keeping you drier than you would be if you had no holes. I stand 5'10 and have the ability to walk 50 yards and carry the kayak with 1 arm. 40lbs at its dry weight. I appreciate the molded handle in the middle. I plan on getting an upgraded seat with thick cushion, my husband had no problem using what it came with. We were out on the water 3hrs. This is our third and final kayak; getting shorter everytime. This stands at 8.5 and fits perfectly ontop of my Toyota Land Cruiser.
