Squirrel-X 2.5 lb. X8 Squirrel-Resistant Bird Feeder

I cannot recommend this bird feeder. Usually, I do my homework, but did not with this item. That is on me. I dropped over $35.00 on this bird feeder, and it was an unmitigated disaster! Although it was put by my garden, I noted the birds were not using it right from the beginning, and I could not understand why. The only thing this feeder has going for it is the beautiful coloring. This bright color should have attracted birds, and it did not. I also noted that rain was leaking into it - even though it says it is weatherproof. I finally had to throw it away because my feed was sprouting and fermenting - absolutely horrible smell!! I would ask that Squirrel X really test their items before they put them on the market making claims that cannot be substantiated, because this was not weatherproof. Between the feeder and the seed, the $45.00 wasted was $45.00 too much.

As others stated, cannot take apart to clean after a rain, seed got clumped, impossible to use if not in a covered area.

I have owned a few different “squirrel proof” feeders in the past. This one has been fairly effective against the squirrels, but is no match for rain/humidity. I would not buy it again nor would I recommend it if you live in a climate with regular rainfall. Somehow, the seed gets wet and clumps in the feeder. Then, of course, it germinates. The feeder DOES have small holes in the base, but they apparently aren’t large enough for drainage. As far as squirrels go, it is definitely more difficult for them to access the seed, but I do have two who have learned how to slide the sleeve. The top has chew/claw marks in the paint, but the squirrels weren’t actually able to damage the feeder itself. On my past feeders, the squirrels would pull out or chew out the plastic seed dispensers placed over the holes. No problem with that on this one.

The first time it rained it held water and the food clumped together. I couldn't get it out nor could the birds or the squirrels. Waste of $35
