On average most horses comfortably consume 2% of their body weight in dry forage per day. This equates to 20 lb. of dry forage per day for a 1000 lb. horse. Standlee recommends that you weigh the amount of forage provided to each horse to ensure you are feeding the proper amount. Standlee also recommends that pelleted and cubed forage not be the sole source of forage since feeding some long-stem forage (hay) may help eliminate boredom and prevent stall vices. Feed Standlee Premium Western Forage at a minimum rate of 1.5% of body weight per day. Gradually replace existing hay with Standlee Premium Western Forage over a 7-10 day period. Replace existing hay on a 1 to 1 basis with Standlee Premium Western Forage. Standlee Premium Western Forage is recommended to be fed wet, soaked in water for 30 minutes or until properly softened, for horses that have dental problems or for horses that aggressively consume their feed. Never feed moldy or insect infested forage to horses. Always provide free-access to fresh, clean water. If you have questions, please contact the nutritionists at Standlee Premium Western Forage, or consult with your veterinarian.
Gradually replace existing hay with Standlee over a 7-10 day period.

Q: I'm using this for a 1200lb Friesian as an added winter forage on top of his normal hay and grain and he is in dressage training. Is there a recommended amount/serving size in pounds of how much to feed as an addition to his diet?
6 months ago- A: While there isn't a single universal "added" amount, feeding guidelines recommend that a horse consume a total of 1.5% to 2.5% of its body weight in forage per day from all sources (hay, pellets, pasture). For a 1200 lb Friesian, this equates to a total daily forage intake of approximately 18 to 30 pounds. The amount of the Standlee Premium Orchard Grass Hay Pellets you add depends on how much existing hay and grain the horse is eating and the horse's body condition. You should replace existing hay on a pound-for-pound basis with the pellets and weigh the total forage provided to ensure you meet the total daily requirement. You can use the Standlee Feed Calculator Tool (https://www.standleeforage.com/tools/feed-calculator/) for a more specific estimate, or consult with an equine nutritionist or veterinarian to tailor the diet to your horse's specific needs and training regimen.6 months agoHelpful?
