Q: Do you know the nsc %?

1 Answer
  • A: We do not request that NSC be calculated in our analysis done by Equi-Analytical in NY. What I can tell you is that NSC is a combination of WSC (Water Soluble Carbohydrates) and Starch So from our test: WSC equals 28.2 g/lb. + Starch which equals 17.7 g/lb. = 45.9 g/lb. (NSC) However, not all WSCs contribute to higher glucose levels because they are not entirely absorbed in the digestive tract. The results of these tests were calculated from production on 3/21/21.

Q: I asked before should I weigh dry or wet. The answer was dry. That means I would be feeding a whole bag in 2 days as my horse cannot chew hay at all. Can I get a confirmation on this

1 Answer
  • A: Dry Weight, Feed by Weight not Volume. 1%-2% of the horses body weight daily The recommendation is the pellets be soaked two parts water to one part pellet for at least 30 minutes. Cubes should be soaked for at least 45 minutes to an hour. It is important to feed pellets or cubes at ground level, allowing the horse to extend his neck in his natural grazing position. Always use room temperature or cold water when soaking forage as hot water not only cooks them but can also cause them to ferme

Inconsistent quaility

I have purchased 20 bags of Dumor alfalfa/timothy pellets and found them very inconsistent of quality and size of pellets. Some pellets on some bags were large and bright green. I suspect were all alfalfa. Some bags the pellets were brown and small. My 4 horses all like the green pellets but 2 of them refused to eat the small brown ones. I find this totally unacceptable. I will choose another brand next time!
