Item Information

Standlee Premium Alfalfa/Timothy Cubes are formed by coarsely grinding Standlee Premium Western Forage and forcing it through a large die with heat and steam. The mix of alfalfa and Timothy grass combines two of the most popular forages fed to horses in a blend that is moderate to low in protein and sugar.

Ingredients:
Naturally Sun-Cured Premium Western Alfalfa Forage, Naturally Sun-Cured Premium Western Timothy Grass Forage, Bentonite.

Guaranteed Analysis:
Crude Protein (min.) 12%
Crude Fat (min.) 1.5%
Crude Fiber (max.) 32%

Feeding Instructions:
On average most horses comfortably consume 2% of their body weight in dry forage per day. This equates to 20 lb. of dry forage per day for a 1000 lb. horse. Standlee recommends that you weigh the amount of forage provided to each horse to ensure you are feeding the proper amount. Standlee also recommends that pelleted and cubed forage not be the sole source of forage since feeding some long-stem forage (hay) may help eliminate boredom and prevent stall vices. Feed Standlee Premium Western Forage at a minimum rate of 1.5% of body weight per day. Gradually replace existing hay with Standlee Premium Western Forage over a 7-10 day period. Replace existing hay on a 1 to 1 basis with Standlee Premium Western Forage. Standlee Premium Western Forage is recommended to be fed wet, soaked in water for 30 minutes or until properly softened, for horses that have dental problems or for horses that aggressively consume their feed. Never feed moldy or insect infested forage to horses. Always provide free-access to fresh, clean water. If you have questions, please contact the nutritionists at Standlee Premium Western Forage, or consult with your veterinarian.

Standlee Premium Western Forage Premium Alfalfa/Timothy Cubes, 40 lb. Bag is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too large cubes Too long and difficult too chop with hatchet. Scared horses could choke on them even though I soak them

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Treat bag with care I bought the hay cubes for my rabbits because they are always wasting their hay. They love the gnaw on the little cubes. One thing I found, though, is if the bag gets crushed or tossed around, the cubes with crumble, leaving a pile of finely ground hay in the bottom that my rabbits won't touch. Make sure you treat the bag with care so you don't break up the cubes and waste them.

Standlee Premium Western Forage Alfalfa/Timothy cubes are graded for large animals, therefore we do not recommend they be used for small animals. What does that mean it's to large for small animals?

Asked by: babbycp
There are several different "Grading" procedures when it come to hay, from color, stem size, thickness, etc. Small animals require a softer and more fine stem than a large animal, as large animals can handle the thicker stemmed products more easily.

Do you weigh the cubes BEFORE or AFTER you soak them? For example your calculator says I need 18.41lb of forage so is that before I soak them? That's like half a bag per day.

Asked by: micheles03
Thank you for your question. We recommend that you weigh the Pellets/Cubes dry, as when you add the water, you are only adding water weight, it doesn’t increase the amount of forage that you are feeding. Thank you

Is this genetically modified alfalfa?

Asked by: Stacyrose
Thank you for your question. Our statement is this and can be found on our website as well: As of December 1, 2013, Standlee will have a limited amount of GMO Alfalfa and Alfalfa blended products in retail outlets. GMO Alfalfa could be found in cubes, pellets, chopped or bales. Standlee Premium Western Forage™ recognizes and respects that consumers appreciate a variety of product choices. Therefore, Standlee provides non-GMO straight Timothy Grass and Orchard Grass options across formats. (IE: Orchard Grass Pellets, Timothy Grass Pellets & Bales). Standlee Premium Western Forage is offering Organic Alfalfa Pellets exclusively at select Tractor Supply locations.
