Pellets

Teff Grass Pellets are low in sugar, high in fiber, and are highly palatable.

  • Recommended for senior, overweight and metabolic horses.
  • Pellets are a convenient, easy-to-measure feed option.
  • For increased hydration, aggressive eaters, or horses with dental issues, pellets are recommended to be fed wet, soaked in water (2 parts water to 1 part pellets) for 30 min. or until properly softened.

Q&As

1 - 10 of 11 Questions

Q: I have 2 minis horses that have chronic laminitis and are insulin resistant which is better for me to them teff pellets or alfalfa pellets I am also worried about to much protein.

1 Answer
  • Standlee® Product Expert
A: Standlee recommends the Teff Pellets for Laminitis as the protein is 12% and with the NSC at 7.9%, which is also great for IR horses. Alfalfa has a lower NSC at 6.7% but the protein is 16% which could cause issues with the Laminitis. Another great option is the Alfalfa Timothy Pellets, which has an NSC of 8% and protein is 12%. Q: How many qts to lbs is the Teff grass pellets? I can't find this information anywhere.

A: Thank you for your Question, we appreciate hearing from you. Standlee recommends that horses be fed by weight and not by volume at the rate of 1.5% to 2.5% of their body weight per day in forages. We also recommend that pellets be soaked, two parts room temperature or cold water to one part product for at least 30 - 45 minutes and feed these products at ground level. When making feed changes to your equines diet, always do it slowly over the course of 7 – 10 days.

Q: I bought this by accident but have bunnies.... Can I feed to them on occasion?

1 Answer
  • Standlee® Product Expert
A: Thank you for your question. Small animals can be feed our Standlee Premium Western Forage pellets as their long stem forage. These animals require a fortified pellet specifically formulated for the type of small companion animal being fed rather than simply a high quality forage pellet. The small companion animal should be provided the recommended amount of a commercially prepared fortified pelleted diet specific for its nutritional needs, Standlee is soon to be offering a small animal fortified feed line called Standlee PremiYum.

Q: What is the starch %, ESC %? Need breakdown of the NSC total. I need the individual numbers, NSC doesn't help me because that's hiding the actual amounts of the starch etc that are critical for my PPID/IR mustang that cannot tolerate much starch.

Q: Can I use a scoop of Teff Grass grain in a grain bucket so I can mix my supplements with it? I don't want to use regular grain for my laminitis horse. Also, can I feed it dry like this?

1 Answer
  • Standlee® Product Expert
A: Thank you for your question. Standlee recommends soaking this product before feeding. Standlee guarantee's the diameter of the pellets to be 1/4 of an inch but we do not guarantee the length. We recommend soaking to avoid a choking hazard. Teff is a Grass that is ground down finely and put in pellet form, not a grain. You can absolutely mix this with supplements!

Q: Can this be given to substituted regular hay? And how much to give?

1 Answer
  • Standlee® Product Expert
A: Thank you for your question. Standlee Teff pellets are 100% forage. So you can feed these pellets as their sole source of forage. For example, if you are feeding 20lbs of forage a day to your 1000lb equine and wanting to switch to pellets, you would still feed 20lbs of pellets. We recommend if switching forms of feed, to do so over the course of 7-10 days.

Standlee Teff Pellets

I really like the teff pellets for my easy keeper ponies. They really like them which makes them easy to feed. Just wish they were available at my local TSC store. I have to order online and have them shipped to me so with shipping I'm paying double the price. I looked at TSC stores in my surrounding counties and no one has them and they claim they cant order them for me. Why can I order them but they can't? Not good customer service.

Wanted to ship online feed order to store.

Wanted to ship feed to store. Store does not stock it. Web site either did not allow shipping to the store or was not clear one could ship to the store. So ended up paying double the cost. The shipping was about equal to the cost.

Love for my navicular mare

my horse has navicular and I wanted her on a forage based diet to support her feet without being inflammatory. The teff pellets were a no brainer for me and she eats them up so well and I dont feel like I am adding in a lot of the junk that commercial grains has. A lot of times, I add in some warm water and I feed them right away. They do breakdown into a mash very easily so no need to soak for a long time. She looks great as well! first photo is before then after a month

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good for my seniors and good for my budget!

I'm slowly switching my horses and mules over to an all-forage diet. They weren't thrilled but have finally accepted the teff hay pellets, and now only leave 1/8, and most of that is fine hay dust. All my guys are seniors, 20-28 years old, and love that the pellets soften easily in water but don't become mush, which none of them will touch.

Amazing protein source

I pulled a couple of mine off alfalfa mixed with timothy and switched to Teff mixed with the timothy pellets and they look less inflamed and puffy! Even dropped a little bit of the ever lingering weight! I love the Teff pellets!

Yes, I recommend this product.
