Item Information

Standlee Premium Alfalfa/Timothy Cubes are formed by coarsely grinding Standlee Premium Western Forage and forcing it through a large die with heat and steam. The mix of alfalfa and Timothy grass combines two of the most popular forages fed to horses in a blend that is moderate to low in protein and sugar.

Ingredients:
Naturally Sun-Cured Premium Western Alfalfa Forage, Naturally Sun-Cured Premium Western Timothy Grass Forage, Bentonite.

Guaranteed Analysis:
Crude Protein (min.) 12%
Crude Fat (min.) 1.5%
Crude Fiber (max.) 32%

Feeding Instructions:
On average most horses comfortably consume 2% of their body weight in dry forage per day. This equates to 20 lb. of dry forage per day for a 1000 lb. horse. Standlee recommends that you weigh the amount of forage provided to each horse to ensure you are feeding the proper amount. Standlee also recommends that pelleted and cubed forage not be the sole source of forage since feeding some long-stem forage (hay) may help eliminate boredom and prevent stall vices. Feed Standlee Premium Western Forage at a minimum rate of 1.5% of body weight per day. Gradually replace existing hay with Standlee Premium Western Forage over a 7-10 day period. Replace existing hay on a 1 to 1 basis with Standlee Premium Western Forage. Standlee Premium Western Forage is recommended to be fed wet, soaked in water for 30 minutes or until properly softened, for horses that have dental problems or for horses that aggressively consume their feed. Never feed moldy or insect infested forage to horses. Always provide free-access to fresh, clean water. If you have questions, please contact the nutritionists at Standlee Premium Western Forage, or consult with your veterinarian.

Standlee Premium Western Forage Premium Alfalfa/Timothy Cubes, 40 lb. Bag is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from good quality hay cubes I've been buying these hay cubes for my senior horse for over a year now and soak them to make a mush. I've only had issues a couple times one bag being moldy and another having plastic shreds like the baler picked up something but that's expected every now and then. The moldy one i took back to my tsc store and they exchanged it for a new one. Otherwise these are always good and seem like a good quality forage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these cubes! Both of my mares Love these cubes...I wet them thourghly and they eat them up! The hay from last summer was terrible because of the weather...so I decided to go with these cubes. Very good for the girls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Exceptional Product from Standlee! Soaks quickly and all the way through in a couple of hours. Nice pieces and the Boys love it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hard to soften These cubes are for my senior horse and I soak them in warm water to break them up and soften them, so he can eat without choking. They will not breakdown unless I use my hands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice quality solid cubes! My 29 yr old pony is now on cubes vs hay and she loves these! I do need to soak them first because of her teeth, but the bucket is all gone by morning. Other brands' cubes have a lot of loose hay vs solid cubes and the Standlee products are all nicely formed cubes which makes it easier to scoop out of the bag. I would highly recommend this product as well as the other cubes offered by Standlee.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Waste I love cubes. Better than hay for 2 major reasons. Consistency and no waste.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the cubes! My horses love the Standlee Alfalfa Timothy Cubes! There is very little waste, if any, with feeding the cubes. I love that it's a consistent hay source with no noxious weeds as I have an older horse who has a sensitive tummy and a horse who has allergies to certain weeds. Taking the bags of cubes on a trip is also a lot easier than messing with bales of hay and keeps my trailer, feed room and barn a lot cleaner, too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeping Weight on Ol' Rebel--GREAT PRODUCT! Our older horse is losing his teeth. We soak the cubes to soften them along with Equine Senior Chow. The combination keeps him in great shape! He loves his gruel-- drools for it. The cubes are also excellent for treats! They (3) love them. Thank you for your great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I soak them in water until it's soaked up and the cubes have expanded. Keeps my horses happy and at a good weight (fed along with their regular grain). They love it and I believe it helps keep them full as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for older horses I’m feeding to my 29 year old Percheron/TB gelding as he has dental issues. It is high quality and soaks to a soft consistency. He loves it and so do I!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great horse product My horses have been on Alfalfa-timothy cubes for years and do very well on them. Absolutely no waste like loose hay or alfalfa. You pay a bit more but the horses eat all the cubes and get great nutritional value. Bags leave a lot to be desired.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful product Great product, I use this and the pellets for my old mare. It put weight on her and her coat is shiny. Highly recommended

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased with this product Bought this brand for my 32 year old QH. She loves it and it has really helped with maintaining a good condition since hay is getting harder for her to chew. It is a nice bright green in color with a sweet smell and it is not dusty. I soak it in hot water and add senior grain, soaked pelleted beet pulp and supplements to make a warm mash for her. She enjoys it and looks forward to feeding time. Great product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better quality than other brands Definately a better quallity cube than other brands. Let me tell you why: 1. The fields the hay/cubes comes from are monitored and attended by a company who believes in quality over quantity. 2. Other brands buy from various fields/states according to time of year and price, leaving your source UNKNOWN other than the "feed store" you bought from. 3. Safe: For all livestock. In my home; safe for my 2 Arabians I love fiercely. Can I say safer? Yes. Fields owned by Standlee are rotated correctly. Thier choice in round fields use less land, creating "breaks" between various grasses grown. Alfalfa, timothy, orchard. ect.. Much more "precise" in what you buy. 4. TESTING. They lab test all products they grow. (however, testing is every 5 years. I'd like yearly) 5. My horses, including a 29 yr Arabian can easily break the cubes. (remember I am using Alfalfa/Timothy cubes) If the ratio is correct, the cube itself will float in water. The ones that sink are more than 50% Alfalfa. too hard for my liking and I toss them (not happy about those, however, few and far between). 6. Winner by miles: less dust, foreign debris, and the most important? IF something foreign is found: YOU know the source. (This is NOT a free ticket for false allegation, it's solid for peace of mind, sound sleep at night, knowing your choosing better. 7. My horses choose Standlee over any other brand side by side-hands down. 100% every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product ! I've been reading some of the negative reviews here & I'm very surprised.I'm presently on my seventh bag of the cubes and both my horses absolutely love them.I don't know if some of the problems could have anything to do with how the stores are storing their products. My TSC has all the bagged feed in the store in the air conditioning and I have not had any of the problems some others are having. One of my horses is 30 yrs old and is absolutely healthy and I want to keep it that way.I live in North Florida so he's used to hot weather and drinks an average of 13 gallons of water a day in the hot weather. But come Sept when evenings begin cooling off he just stops drinking water. This just started last year 2014 so I was very concerned he would colic.I tried a different product then but it was very very expensive. This Sept I searched and found the Standlee cubes. He took to it immediately.I soak the cubes in a 5 gallon bucket filled to the top with water and he loves it.I feed him like that twice a day and he empties the bucket and licks it dry. That's how much he loves the product. And I can be sure he's getting his water to keep him healthy.`I also started using the Standlee pellets with the same results. Both horses love Standlee feed.I supplement with some hay but they aren't eating as much hay as they did before the cubes.I'm very pleased with Standlee products and with my local TSC store ! No complaints at all

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Tim alf works well for us. Well, I like the chaff that another reviewer doesn't care for. I have an elderly guy that can't handle the tightly compressed cubes unless they are soaked to death, but he doesn't care for really wet feed, so the chaff is a plus for me for him, and I also keep rabbits, a LOT of rabbits, so the long tightly compressed cubes that don't soak well get busted small and given to the bunnies for a treat. I've found foreign material in one portion of one bag, out of literally hundreds, which is a way better ratio than the bales I get from my hay guy - dead snake anyone? The old guy likes the product and is 28 and doing well even with Cushing's and other issues - I sure wish it was cheaper but I feel it's a good value and a good product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful Product! I bought this product when it was quite cold in Texas a few months ago to jump start my horses for the spring. The first bag was fine but the second bag had hard plastic pieces mixed in the cubes. If I was not picking through the cubes I would've never seen the cube(s).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from very disappointed I'm with Jlamb on this one. The cubes stink when soaked and don't really breakdown. My 20+ yr old doesn't care for the cubes and throws the stuff out of his bucket.. I prefer the pellets and SO DOES HE :)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Questionable quality, more dusty chaff than cubes. I usually buy a 50lb bag of a competitor's cubes simply because I've been feeding them for a while and they're a good quality. I do, however, buy the Standlee pellets. Last week I noticed the Alfalfa/Timothy cubes at my local TSC and decided to give them a try, even though they're only 40lbs and more expensive. Tonight I opened the bags to pour into the cube bin, and to my disgust the cubes were VERY small fragments of cubes swimming in an ocean of hay chaff. The amount of dust that puffed up was insane. It reminded me of the horrible quality of the Standlee bagged bales -- 80% dust. Thankfully, I soak my cubes in warm water before feeding, so the dust won't be that big of an issue, but I'm thoroughly disgusted at the quality and will NOT be buying any more Standlee cubes from this point forward. I have attached photos of the cubes as they were poured out of the bag into the bin, along with a photo of a red bucket full of the competitor's cubes that I had left.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from What happened to the straight alfalfa cubes? I bought the plain alfalfa cubes for over a year and now they're gone?  A 'Dumore' brand was in their place which I bought and the horse turned the bucket over and walked away.  They smell like spinach when soaked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the pellets Love the pellets way more than the cubes... Much easier to use and never worried about choking as I am with cubes. Goog quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! This is a great product when hauling or needing to add a hay supplement to your feed. Good to soak as well for older horses~ Standlee has real quality!

Standlee Premium Western Forage Alfalfa/Timothy cubes are graded for large animals, therefore we do not recommend they be used for small animals. What does that mean it's to large for small animals?

Asked by: babbycp
There are several different "Grading" procedures when it come to hay, from color, stem size, thickness, etc. Small animals require a softer and more fine stem than a large animal, as large animals can handle the thicker stemmed products more easily.

Do you weigh the cubes BEFORE or AFTER you soak them? For example your calculator says I need 18.41lb of forage so is that before I soak them? That's like half a bag per day.

Asked by: micheles03
Thank you for your question. We recommend that you weigh the Pellets/Cubes dry, as when you add the water, you are only adding water weight, it doesn’t increase the amount of forage that you are feeding. Thank you
