Q: Would this be ok to feed during trailering?

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, Standlee Premium Western Forage Alfalfa Hay Chopped Horse Feed is ok to feed during trailering, but it requires specific safety precautions. Because it is chopped into short 2-to-4-inch pieces rather than left as long-stem hay, feeding it dry in a moving trailer significantly increases the risks of choke and respiratory irritation from airborne particles.

Baling twine mixed in with the product

I used to think it’s a great product until I found bailing twine in it. I will no longer use it. I have contacted Stanley and they think by telling me that can happen is unexcused as if a horse ate some of that billing line they would get an impassion emergencies colleague surgery, and usually being euthanized. I don’t give any anymore.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Extra chicken protein treat

I do wish the chopped was a bit more “chopped” sometimes as we use this as a chicken treat, but the closer you get to the middle of the bag the better it gets from the compression. Our chickens love it so they only get a little bit every week as an extra pecking protein source.

Yes, I recommend this product.
