Speckled Sussex Chickens originated in England around AD 43, making them one of the oldest known breeds, with the speckled variety being recognized around 1914. The speckled coloring of these chickens have dark brown or mahogany colored plumage, with some black and blue feathers tipped with white ends, making the speckles show throughout their plumage. The speckles become more prominent as the chickens molt each year. These curious, mellow chickens are very hardy in winter, do well confined, and are an excellent forager so they also do well free ranged. These calm, beautiful chickens are great show birds that tend to go broody and make wonderful mothers. The size and productivity of these birds make them great dual purpose chickens for your backyard flock!

Amazing chicks

No idea why the other reviews are so absolutely terrible. Thank goodness I didn't actually read any of them before ordering. I ordered chicks in May in zone 6 and had no issues. All were healthy and lively upon arrival. And all lived. Made sure they were warm, protected from drafts, and got them to drink the first day. Now they are almost 4 weeks old and are still all alive and doing chicken things. Only regret: not ordering 20!

ALL DIED

One was dead upon arrival. One by one they all died. My brooder has raised other chicks with no issues. Seemed sick. No response when I looked for replacements. I'd avoid this hatchery.

Dead or Plain Wrong.

10/10 were dead on arrival. They resent the order and 1 was a speckled sussex, while 9 were a black chicken breed. Sussex are brown.

Not Sexed Correctly

I ordered the live rare standard breed FEMALES. We got 5 maybe 6 roosters. I could understand maybe 1 or 2 out of 10. We are extremely unhappy with this because of not only the price but also all the time spent and money put into raising these chicks just to have to figure out a way to get rid of all of these roosters.

No, I do not recommend this product.
