Dehydration in horses has serious consequences. In order to keep your horse properly hydrated and performing his best, it is essential to supplement his diet with salt. Neither hay, pasture, nor fortified grain contain enough salt (sodium chloride) to meet your horse's needs, and not all horses can get their requirements from a salt block alone. Feeding a well-balanced electrolyte supplement like SmartLytes can supply the sodium chloride your horse needs, in addition to the other electrolyte minerals that are lost in sweat - potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Supplying these electrolytes will also encourage your horse to drink more water, rebalancing his fluids and helping to ensure proper digestion of feeds. SmartLytes was carefully formulated to mimic the mineral losses in equine sweat. This cherry-flavored powder is sugar-free and contains trimethylglycine (the osmolyte betaine), to help cells maintain normal fluid levels.

Horses will not eat

I bought this last year and unfortunately, none of my horses will eat it. They dump out their grain or refuse to eat at all. I have tried hiding with other things and watering down their grain, but all 5 of them will not eat it. They eat the apple a day electrolytes and all other electrolytes I have tried, but sadly this was not a hit in my barn.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Effective

For my horses, a scoop of day keeps colic away. Everyone finds it palatable plus it’s good to know during the winter months it contains magnesium to help keep them calm and safe from running crazy on frozen or slippery ground where none features can happen.

Yes, I recommend this product.

My hoover of a horse won't eat it.

It's been heinously hot here, to the point where my horse is sweating at a standstill. I wanted to add electrolytes, but she won't eat these. And my horse is the least picky horse ever, eating whatever she can fit in her mouth. The powder is supposedly cherry flavored, and it smells like cherry cough syrup,so I can't imagine it tastes much better. I think she'd probably prefer unflavored powder since she likes her salt lick. Sad, because supplements are so expensive these days.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not Picky Eater Approved

Unfortunately while they say it is picky eater approved, that is not the case. Couldn’t get my horse to eat it. Tried easing it into his diet, adding other treats and things to try to get him to overlook it. No luck. If this is in his feed at all then he won’t touch it. Such a bummer.

No, I do not recommend this product.
