Hoover's Hatchery Blue Swedish Ducks are a hardy and robust duck breed known for their excellent foraging ability and strong performance in free-range environments. These ducks thrive outdoors and are well suited for homesteads and small farms looking for a resilient, dual-purpose duck. Compared to Blue Swedish Ducks, Black Swedish Ducks have the advantage of breeding truewhen two Black Swedish ducks are mated, all offspring will be Black Swedish. Originally imported to the United States in the late 1800s, Swedish ducks have a long history as a dependable farm breed. Blue Swedish Ducks lay white, green, or blue-tinted eggs and are considered moderate egg layers. While they are slower to mature, they make a good meat duck with flavorful meat. This breed does not perform well in confinement and prefers open spaces where it can forage naturally. In terms of temperament, Blue Swedish Ducks can be somewhat noisy. Laying hens are known for a loud, distinctive quack, while drakes produce a much quieter sound. Their striking plumage features a uniform bluish-slate color with darker lacing on some feathers, along with white markings on the wings and breast. Drakes are typically slightly darker in color than hens.
