The G0645 1/2 HP Benchtop Mortising Machine was awarded as Top Value by Wood Magazine for its combination of features including the rack-and-pinion fence, 6-position handle and riser block that added 1-1/4 in. stroke to the column. Rigid cast-iron construction and rack-and-pinion head control on a dovetail column help ensure this Benchtop Mortising Machine will produce precision mortises every time. A pneumatic return strut eases the step-and-repeat cycle when making multiple mortises. A riser block is also included to increase the maximum stock thickness to 6 in. The 1/2 HP motor powers through any type of wood and the easy-access drill chuck makes it simple to change chisels. Includes 4 mortising chisels.

It works but it could be better designed.

The tool works ok, it does the job. With the height extender, the knob to adjust the fence is useless. Also the hole in the extender for the fence slider is too small so the fence gets stuck. There are a lot of exposed lubricated areas that are going to get dusty. Mine was also missing the bolt and spring to attach the handle, as well as the paperwork (manual, etc.).

Solid machine, fence not perpendicular.

Fence needed shimmed to be perpendicular to the table. Chisels need a lot of work to sharpen. Otherwise it is a solid machine, the chisel was perpendicular to the table, assembly instructions were clear, oversll I'd say it was worth the price.

Weak components

The feed arm components are cast (not forged) and shatter under pressure. To make matters worse, the replacement parts are always listed as "unavailable". Once it breaks, you're out of luck. Other Grizzly machines I have had for years work famously, but I would not recommend this machine.
