what size &/or how many batteries does this kit require?

Asked by: cmoo
For the 200 watt kit, we recommend a 100 amp-hour deep cycle AGM 12-volt battery.

How big a house is this 200W kit plus 4 100 W panel system powering

Asked by: justwondering
It won't even come close to "powering a house" - this kit provides an average of 600 watt-hours of usable power per day (more in summer, less in winter).

wondering how much it takes to run a flat screen tv a couple of hours a day and a light or two.

Asked by: Ricky89
On average, this kit produces 600 watt-hours of usable power per day (more in summer, less in winter). To properly size an off-grid system or battery backup system, we would need to know the following: 1. Your estimated daily power usage in watt (we need exact daily watt-hour numbers from customers because many standard appliances and devices have widely variable power consumptions). Energystar’s yearly kWh ratings for fridges and freezers are also helpful to have. 2. Maximum inverter wattage and voltage required – what is the most power, in watts, that the inverter will need to produce, and are you using any 220 volt appliances? 3. Location or zip code of where the panels will be mounted. 4. Months of the year that the system will be needed (winter, summer, year-round, etc.). Please note that battery-based solar requires 2 to 4 times as many panels for winter production.

If you add panels what else needs to be upgraded

Asked by: Michael K
This system can have up to five 100 watt panel, connected in parallel. Although no other components need to be upgraded when you add panels, we recommend starting out with a larger battery bank (250-400 amp-hours total at 12 VDC for 500 watts of panels, as opposed to 100-200 Ah for this 200 watt kit) if you plan on expanding. Do not add new batteries to old ones, keep them all at the same age.

How many additional solar panels can I attach to this unit?

Asked by: claytr
The charge controller can have a maximum of five 100 watt panels connected to the PV input. They must be connected in parallel, using branch connectors.

We want to recharge a battery for a tennis ball machine. The charger has a max input rating of 1.5A. The biggest rub is that we need 35-40 feet of cable run between panels and controller. What do you recommend?

Asked by: SBGTerry
The charge controller for this kit puts out around 15 amps under normal operation. These kits are used to charge deep cycle batteries - if your charger runs off of AC power, this kit might work when paired with a 100 Ah deep cycle battery. You would use the inverter to run the charger. We also sell 15-foot cable extensions, you can use those for a 45-foot run which should not create excessive voltage drop with only two panels. Feel free to contact us directly for more advice.

Wanting to power a tiny House off grid.  Countertop fridge, tiny tot hot water heater ( 3 gallons) TV and a 224 hotel room style AC . Approx how many kits?

Asked by: Lilthunderbolt
It is not currently feasible to run air conditioners, space heaters or pool pumps with off-grid solar. In general, you need 500 watts of panel power per hour of the day that a standard (1500 watt) heat/AC unit (or 1 HP pump ) is operating, in addition to the cost of charge controllers, batteries, cables, and an inverter.

I have a small camp that we currently use a 3400 Watt generator to power. Most of our power consumption comes from LED lights for night use and a radio. We occasionally use it for a coffee maker and vacuum. Will this kit be sufficient? Thanks.

Asked by: Jason Jay
Assuming ideal panel placement, this kit provides an average of 600 watt-hours per day (more in summer, less in winter). It's unlikely that this will meet your needs. Also, I don't believe this inverter is powerful enough to run a coffeemaker or vacuum. I'd recommend our 400 watt kit for this project.
