Rated 5 out of 5 by from Who needs PG&E Just set up my new generator. Very simple to get wheels on which will come in handy since I plan on storing in Garage when not in use. I have elected to use propane that way won't need to make sure gas gets old if in not in use for a while, which probably wont be a problem if PG&E continues their safety shut offs. Fired it up the other day on second pull. Runs well. Powers more than what I need during a power outage. One note and it is indicated in the manual, the on off switch does not shut off engine when using propane. Looks like I'll be living in comfort over the next 10 years while utility company and politician get there act together. PS I also purchased the champion all weather cover for rain and snow season.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A lifesaver during our latest power outages In addition to the regular household stuff, I run a business. This lifesaver kept my printers running !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great generator. Saved all our food. Saved all our food in the fridges and freezers during a 2-day public safety power shutoff. Worked perfectly, and ran LED lights, laptops and charged phones just fine. And the manual is very good. It is good at the beginning of the outage to be able to use propane until I can get to a gas station. That way, I don't have to keep gasoline around outside the generator's tank. Went 18 hours on 8 gallons due to low load.

What appliances and such will this operate if you have no power due to a hurricane or power outage? Like a window unit, refrigerator, deep freezer, etc?

Asked by: Shortylu10
Most fridges and freezers are very power efficient. Maybe 1,800 watts on startup and running at 600 watts. A window AC unit can really vary in size. I would check for a voltage and amperage rating on the AC. You multiply this together to get watts. For example 120V at 10A is 1,200 Watts. You then multiply that number by 3 to find out the peak power consumption at startup (estimated). To start this 1,200 watt window AC in our example, it can take as much as 3,600 starting watts. Looking to use this generator with a Hobart 140 welder which is a 115v plug. Is it possible to use an adapter to plug in to 30 amp locking outlet to get more amps vs using 20amp outlet

Asked by: Worm1747
This machine offers a 240V 30A outlet that can provide a continuous output of 22.92A. This is found using the formula Amps X Volts = Watts. This tells us that each 120V circuit of this machine is capable of this 22.92A. You can use a 240V to 120V extension cord to split this outlet so you can take advantage of the additional 2.92A available. The question would be, does your welder ever draw at a continuous amperage over 20A? It specs sheets say it is designed to run from a standard 120V 20A outlet. You may want to ask Hobart if there is any reason to do this.
